That section only prohibits federal payments for affordability credits. It does not prohibit the reform's health insurance requirement. Illegal immigrants would be required to have health insurance.

Obama lied.

So we don't have a law which bans illegal immigrants from getting Government Health care plans?? factcheck.org says otherwise.

BTW how is anything that starts out with Thus it would appear not a statement of opinion?

Obama did lie, unless he has written a completely different bill. Furthermore, What Joe Wilson has just done is back Obama into a documented corner. There's no way any health care reform plan can insure illegal immigrants now. That video clip of Obama's response, and Pelosi's and Biden's reactions are going to bite them in the butt when it turns out that illegal immigrants actually are covered.
Now, instead of providing a link to the CRS's interpretation of the bill, how about providing tangible evidence of your claim? For instance, please provide the exact verbage from the bill that would grant coverage to illegal aliens. Go ahead, we'll all wait...(but we won't hold our breath)...

Here, I'll help:

Read the specific text of the bill, instead of reading someone else's interpretation.

Text of H.R.3200 as Introduced in House: America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 - U.S. Congress - OpenCongress

HR 3200, SUBTITLE C, SECTION 246:

“Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.”

Affordability credits are the issue. We don't want illegal immigrants to receive American taxpayer subsidized health insurance. If they want coverage, they'll have to pay full price. So that should pretty much eliminate the public option for them.

The Congressional Research Service, a part of the Library of Congress, is authoritative. You should contact them if you have any questions on this.

From CNN:
"While the report found that federal subsidies to obtain health coverage would be restricted to U.S. citizens and legal residents, it also noted that the bill does not specify a citizenship verification system, something that critics say creates a loophole for undocumented immigrants to receive subsidies anyway.
The report, released Tuesday, "undermines the claims of the president and others that illegal immigrants would not be covered under the House version of the bill," Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Washington-based Center for Immigration Studies, told CNN."

He danced around it and in fact did not specifically mention a Trigger or a Co-Op. He still supports the Public Option based on his speech.

Isnt there some form of "amnesty" in the works for the illegals presently here. If so, wouldnt they automatically have eligibility for the public option at that point anyway?

There is a law that bans illegal immigrants from qualifying for affordability credits, but there is no citizen verification requirement in the bill.

"Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nevada, last month proposed an amendment in the House Ways and Means Committee to add a verification process. Democrats on that committee, including Rep. Xavier Becerra of California, voted it down because the rules it called for would be "unworkable," the Democrat said."

Except there's no verification requirement. The Democrats voted it down. See above.

It's amazing how the whiners come out big time every time Obama does or says anything. If The Almighty Bush (or Daddy Bush) had said any of this you would have thought it was the greatest thing and should be passed immediately.
