I work for Immigration Health Service and I can confirm Illegals do get health care and rather good care I might add. Daily sick call, medications, dental care, authorized speciality treatment and at a mere 216 billion last year. Compliments of the US Government and our tax dollars.
You paid out of pocket. Arranging for payments was never a part of the discussion. PA hospital social workers cannot approve Medicaid enrollment. Your post makes no sense.
It does make sense unless you are someone seeking a free ride.
No they can not approve you for an access card or gov assistance. But they can help you to reach out to those who can. It is in the hospitals best interests to do so, and they do help folks in this regard.

I agree but it won't happen this go around. Almost as good is just mandating health insurance for everyone, like auto insurance. It will get the ball rolling for the eventual implimentation of public option and UHC.
That will happen this time around as both sides support it.
Sagran, I agree totally. I was responding to the poster and his statements about ERs and chronic conditions. Between my parents and my husband, I have spent way too much time in ER waiting rooms. It is truly a sad situation. Very tough seeing people sit there for hours and hours trying to get help for non-life threatening issues because they have no where else to go.
Something definitely needs to change with our healthcare system.
I just want to add about the mentality we have about ERs. There was a time I was having issues with chronic UTIs. I was in Florida for my daughter's wedding when I knew I was having another problem. I called my doctor's office and they advised me to go to an ER. I was incredulous. I told them to look at my records, call in a prescription and I would gladly come in after I returned home. They eventually agreed to call in the script. Needless to say when I returned home, I made an appointment with a specialist who "cured" me. At least I had the option to do that because I have insurance. But to have a doctor's office suggest that to their patient when they knew I had that problem just blew me away.
Many changes need to be made.
OK, I know this is off-topic, but. . . What your doc first advised you to do was the right thing, that or go to an Urgent Care center which is what we tell patients who call from out of town, out of state, even out of the country wanting antibiotics called in. It is very poor medicine to prescribe antibiotics without examining the patient. That's why your doc didn't want to do it.
You would be surprised (obviously) how much information I can find out about you in less than 2 minutes.
THEY - the social workers make sure that the appointments are made and, if necessary, transportation to those appointments are made.
Yes, they have direct authority under Arizona's system (not Medicaid) to take the patients information, verify it, and make the necessary financial approvals as needed.
Now, if the patient does not go to the appointment - well that is something no one can control.
But, taking care of the financial's is a lot easier here than it is obviously in PA

Can you give me a link to that 216 Billion dollars spent on illegal alien heath care? As long as it's not a lift from a biased opinion piece or from some PAC with an agenda but based on a non partisan study, then I can use it in other posts. Thanks
Nobody ever claimed that someone with an emergency wouldn't be treated. It's about the routine medical care that people without insurance can't get. In fact, the bogus claim that Obama wants to cover illegals comes directly from your story. No Dr. is going to stop and ask for the ID of someone having a medical emergency..

Lots of people have no insurance I was one for a long time. I went to the Dr. every time I needed to.
Most hospitals will stabilize anyone than if they have no insurance will transfer them to a county hospital if needed.
