I used to worry about it while Bush was president, but now, not so much. Still, the fear of some sort of retribution does keep me from saying what I really think sometimes, even on this forum, believe it or not.
I know what you mean, I remember sending an email to GW telling him in no uncertain terms what I thought of him, not long after that there were black helicopters hovering over my house!

Are you referring to Divine retribution?
Let me offer some advice that has stood me in good stead for many years: remember that just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean that people aren't out to get you.

Really, How about the fact that Obama is carrying out the same policies of eavesdropping as the Bush administration.
And today we have a thread about possible Government monitoring of the internet for any dissenters.
I hope those lists don't get sold to spammers. How annoying being asked to buy a "Anrchists handbook" or "Paintball discount warehouse" "Get saved by the blood of the lamb." eek !
Threre are many political topics that I have very strong (and usually unpopular) opinions about. I have signed up on some controversial websites. These sites sometimes have "calls to action" where you can click a link and send a letter to your congressman/sentator or sign a petition for an unpopular point of view.
I would dearly love to participate in these calls to action, but frankly I am a little concerned that doing so would put me on somebody's "list". If you know what I mean.
When the big boys come knocking, I want to be as relatively inconspicuous and anonymous as humanly possible. I don't want to get caught up in any political coups or revolutions that could make me a target.
How many of you feel like I do and would like to particpate more in controversial things, but really fear indentifying yourself as a potential dissenter and "trouble maker" for the powers that be?
I'm just curious how many people are out there who would love to lend their voice to a cause, but fear government retribution for it.

Unless you are a really "important" person I do not think they would come after the little guy.
