Rather then tax the bad food...make the companies go back to real sugar instead of this high fructose corn syrup. Change the bad food so it's not so bad.

Think about this people..soda and fast food has been around since what..the 60's if not earlier.
Why, all of a sudden, are people becoming obese from fast food ?

THE INGREDIENTS !!!! Go do some research.

Yes, do some research, but do it in scientific articles, not stuff written by laypeople. You'll be surprised. HFCS is not the villan a lot of the meida, particluarly the weight-loss media, think it is.

Well I do try to avoid it at all costs and end up buying higher priced items that do not have it. It is surprising how much of our processed food contains it.

Here's a good start..the notes at the bottom are full of links to studies.

Maybe, but then let the people decide and let their money or rather willingness to hold to anything do the talking. It doesn't always work so well when you have people who really do not care, but... to each their own. In the end, I do not consume anything I do not purposefully choose to. That which I do, I take full responsibilty for. Anyone who does not do the same is merely being irresponsible and I have no sympathy for.

The government should be nothing more than a resource in its position. A place where people can go if they need to gain information on issues, not a dictatorial station which removes choice from the individual. If it acted more in that manner, we could hold the stance of "well, did you inform yourself? You didn't? Well, don't you feel stupid now?", rather we have the government these days excusing people for all... for lack of a better word... their own stupidity. Let stupid sink in the hole it is if it refuses to attempt to improve itself. Nature is far less lenient in its approach, we are robbing nature of its natural course.

Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com

Did this daughter wake up one day and noticed her mom was over 600 lbs? Why didn't they do anything before this happened and it was stated that it was because of excesive food! Do you know how much it cost to eat so much to get to over 600 lbs for just one person of the family, the rest had to eat as well...eating less and excersicing would have cost way less and certainly wouldn't have cost her health!

She can't get into an elevator, etc...

Does Obama really think that soda ax will prevent this...why are most people not like this? This woman did it to her self and the family should have interfered years ago, now it is more like "well we get on the news and we cry because our mom can't go any where"...Why didn't they do anything when she got to 250 lbs, or 350 lbs, wich is already ridiculous heavy!

This is the new America. The responsible have to pay for the government to take care of the irresponsible. As this happens watch the ranks of the irresponsible grow until most Americans are dependent on government "assistance" and direction.

The socialism will happen "for our own good" because we can't take care of ourselves.
And the sad thing is that many Americans now feel that the government should take care of them.

I think it was Clyde Barrow who was asked "Why do you rob banks?" to which he replied "That's where the money is". No different with taxes. They rob the responsible members of society because they have paychecks to tax.

In Florida they recently increased "fees" for license plate, etc...the word which starts with a "T" wasn't mentioned. Many people renewed their licenses, and other items to avoid increases.....now the lawmakers are getting afraid they won't be elected again next year and try to undo the whole thing....

Some lawmakers looking to repeal fee increases - Bay News 9 (http://www.baynews9.com/content/36/2009/9/26/525880.html?title=Some+lawmakers+looking+to+repeal +fee+increases - broken link)

Some lawmakers looking to repeal fee increases

Funny isn't it...maybe the lawmakers will get to the point they start to be responsible too....
