Yup. In a van down by the river. It was funny. Deiter, and Lothar of the hill people.

True, however that satire or humor would be directed at the person saying it, not another innocent bystander.

I think the motivational speaker skit featuring Christian Slater was the funniest. I don't know what the hill people is though.

You both got that one right. Those skits were darn funny, and really at no one's expense.

I'll never forget Christina Applegate and David Spade as the teenagers being lectured to, sitting on the sofa and trying their best to keep straight faces in front of Chris.

SNL has lingered on quite a few year past the funny point.

it's time to hang it up.

It's kind of an institution at this point. I don't remember the last time I actually sat down & tuned in to it, usually at 10:30 on a saturday night I'm hanging w/friends, but I'd still be a little bummed if they went off the air. I don't appreciate this particular thing they did but I can appreciate humor when it's good. They've had some good cast members on, in each certain season. But yes, like I've said this was in very poor taste, very poor.

This sounds tasteless but I suppose those who are engaged in creating this sort of humor argue that 'art imitates life'.

They had a number of skits that featured 'Recovery/Self-Help' and the sad irony is that several cast members did not triumph over substance abuse.
I can only assume that we are now living in 'The Age of Truth'/No Secret is a Good Secret. 'Confront' the issues.

Around the time that Janet Reno was a newsmaker I began to tire of this brand of humor--actually, long before that but definitely by that time.

I was 20 something when they started and there had never been anything like this --pretty funny stuff--Coneheads, Wild and Crazy Guys, Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger/Samurai and Roseanne Rosanadanna. It went in one ear and out the other for the most part.

you really think it's too sensitive to say that mocking someone who is suicidal over the issue you are making jokes about is in extremely poor taste?

what *is* in poor taste, if not something like that?

Are you also in favor of legislating what may be used in comedy sketches (however poor their taste)? I don't think that's a very good idea, at all. Although I must say, the thought of a comedian literally on trial for a joke he or she told is rather...funny.
