The only point where I have a MAJOR disagreement is anyone trying to legalize THEFT with fear of imprisonment and fines if you don't comply... especially one where our country is doing the looting from its citizens... i.e. socialism....

We're never going to get anywhere in our discourse until people stop repeating and spreading lies and distortions, and acknowledge and accept when those lies are debunked. And like Sarah Palin said, "stop making stuff up." It's tiresome and gets us nowhere.

As long as people like myhouse2001 make comments like the one posted here, there will be no bi-partisianship.

Actually, myhouse2001 made a very good point. And the first individuals who come to mind are the "rabid-right"'s Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh.

We need to remember we are all Americans...this bashing nonsense is what prevents bi-partisanship.

There's no solution in that! They only want to WIN their argument, not actually solve the problem. They love attacking people, they love finding enemies to blame. They attack people rather than ideas and that's the main reason we are in this mess.

The left thinks collectively, while the right puts on blinders and cannot see past its own backyard. Until the right can actually expand its awareness to include those NOT like themselves, our problems will persist.

To add...I don't support many liberal ideas and I don't support many conservative ideas. Most people are indeed like myself, stuck in the middle somewhere not being heard at all.
your comments are exactly what the OP is talking about I believe. I will add, the mudslinging has gone on for 50 years and probably more. I just can't remember much before that and it is both sides, not one.

Yes, mhouse did make a good point - but he/she did leave 'the other side' quite blameless, as you yourself just did.

The fact is both sides enjoy stirring the pot - both the right and the left have more to gain by fostering this divisiveness then they have by enduring a true bipartasan leadership. And by only focusing on 'those guys' or even the rather tepid response of 'we both do it, but they do it more/worse' aren't you really still a part of the problem?

And yes, I would write the same response had mhouse made the claim that the dems were worse then the reps. Would you have?

If you read my profile status, you'd see that I voted for Nader, so I'm independent of these corrupt things called political parties. I mostly blame the right for the current debacle, but I am 101% in favor of the TRUTH and using it to solve our problems. It's when the participants actually enjoy the fighting that we begin to devolve into chaos and that's precisely where we are. We actually EXPECT there to only be two sides and that we should EXPECT both of them to duke it out, mistakenly believing that that is the way things get done.

Find commonalities, find something to unify us. An argument several years ago with my arch-conservative former Marine father showed me that his goals, his intentions were the same as mine. The only difference between us was the method. Focus and concentrate on the commonalities and the solutions will present themselves. As long as so many people--Quick Enough included--think there's only two sides or that there must be some wrestling match involved, we are doomed to failure.

Stop thinking in black and white. It's been used for thousands of years to disempower groups of people. Everything is a shade of gray and no one is "outside". It's just that the boat is so big we can't see the ocean we're all in.

I think the problem is the generalization. I am a leftie for the msot part but i also realize that there are people on the left jsut as bad as people on the right. I also am smart enough to realize there are plenty of good people on the right that are interested in the truth and not interested in lies to prove their point, they just happen to disagree with how I think we should get there. I think ultimately we want the same thing, for the US and the world to thrive, for our citizens to be good contributers to society, and to be happy and healthy. but when someone says I am stealing just because I am a democrat or someone says I am socialist, that just shuts the door down and does your side no good whatsoever. We have been taxed in the country from day one. If I am a thief because I am a democrat, well then so was George Washington.

Camping: I thought the exact same thing and yes I would have said the same thing. I KNOW there are lefties and democrats just as bad as Republicans and righties and I call them out on it all the time, in real life.

I agree 100%,
when building our country's infrastructure is called wasteful spending
you know that we are going the wrong way.

I wonder why they never said that "our infrastructure is just fine"
