Just step back a minute and hear what you're saying.

What is the incentive for any business other than making a profit for the company and it's investors, who have risked their money in the hopes of making a profit themselves.
Shouldn't be difficult to just keep stacking up profits year after year if your business is excluded (has immunity from) federal anti-trust laws, and the industry can share data with each other (therefore the ability to basically fix prices for product) for decades, now should it?

Mine cost $200 with shatter-proof bi-focal lenses and anti-glare stuff.

My insurance covered the glasses (one pair every two years) and the extras are on me.

Maybe you should spend more time shopping.

What authority does the president have to interfer with the private sector in the way you imagine?

Here's something for you to read with your $1200 glasses.

Do yourself (and us) a favor: Don't try to make it sound like all eyeglasses are $1200.00.

And, Obama is not going to do one thing to prohibit someone from paying, if they want to, $1200 for eyeglasses.

What you're complaining about is the cost of a pair of eyeglasses from a provider....and optical store. What Sarene posted was about the profit margin companies that offer health care plans make.

Here's Yahoo's key statistics page for the top health care plan companies (United, Cigna and Aetna are HMO's and WellPoint is a combination of HMO/PPO but, has bought many of the BC/BS's and turned them into for profit companies now). You'll find both profit margin and operating margin on the left side under the heading "Profitability". If you want any historical info for any of the links, look on the far left and you'll see a link for "Historical Prices"....using that you can query any period of time you want to see what price their stock was selling for as well as any dividends they've paid in the past (you'll notice they've all paid only .03-.04/annually per share, except for WellPoint which hasn't declared any yet):

United HealthCare (UNH): UNH: Key Statistics for UNITEDHEALTH GROUP - Yahoo! Finance
Cigna (CI): CI: Key Statistics for CIGNA CP - Yahoo! Finance
Aetna (AET): AET: Key Statistics for AETNA INC. NEW - Yahoo! Finance
WellPoint (WLP): WLP: Key Statistics for WELLPOINT INC. - Yahoo! Finance

Can it show me the revenue for United Health (for example) from the year 2000? (I didn't find this)

I see that "key stats" has their revenue at: 84.27B, through this recession.
I'm curious what it was before the recession.
And at other points in the past decade.

Nevermind, their website has this information.
http://www.unitedhealthgroup.com/Inv...alReports.aspx
http://www.unitedhealthgroup.com/invest/2000/ar2000_ataglance_p52.pdf (broken link)

Says that revenue was:
1998 - $17 billion
1999 - $19 billion
2000 - $21 billion
2001 - $23 billion
2002 - $25 billion
2003 - $28 billion
2004 - $37 billion
2005 - $46 billion
2006 - $71 billion
2007 - $75 billion
2008 - $81 billion

More than quadrupled their revenue in 10 years.

Sounds like they give big bonuses/executive salaries/dividends to avoid the appearance of excessive profits

19% of the people living here have no health care.
bringing this point up makes one a demon?
he is not talking about the satisfaction of the rich and powerful, we know they are satisfied. he was talking about jose cutting the hedge in your backyard, he was talking about maria taking care of your kids. he was talking about all the illegals on the payroll of your subcontracted business. he was talking about eddy who made your bigmac at mcdonalds. those people got no health insurance.

Out of that, how many are illegals?

How many are those that choose not to buy insurance, like the young and healthy?

How many are left?

How outrageous! Profits of a little more than 3%!

This cannot stand!

I guess obama can't really demonize those Americans who are happy with their HC - about 85%.

He's got to find someone to demonize and target as the "enemy".

Never thought I'd see a US President so bent on targeting and demonizing those entities that are an integral part of US growth.
So 85 percent of 51 percent of americans are happy with they're health care.....yay.
What is that about a 125 million out of 306?
Who are you?
a doctor? insurance broker? or a pharmacist...

just in NYS alone there was a 470 million dollar surplus in healthcare funding last year... just in one state.
I can search google for stories to fit any position I take too.
I have never seen Obama "demonize" anyone
you have a flare for the melodramatic.

Approx 85% of those with health insurance (which is more than 51% of the population) are satisfied with their coverage.

Considering that obama just recently claimed that 30 million are without insurance, that would leave 90% of the population with some form of insurance - private, Medicare, Medicaid.
