How outrageous! Profits of a little more than 3%!

I guess obama can't really demonize those Americans who are happy with their HC - about 85%.

He's got to find someone to demonize and target as the "enemy".

Never thought I'd see a US President so bent on targeting and demonizing those entities that are an integral part of US growth.
Well this is a first, someone defending the insurance companies. Either you work for them or you have no clue how much they actually make yearly in profits. They are one of the few industries with enough clout to actually get laws passed that favor them. I would suggest doing some real research before jumping in on the side of the insurance industry. I know you hate President Obama but always taking the other guys side when it comes to him will only make you look partisan and foolish.

The interesting question is: Where does the premium money actually go? Are funds primarily allocated to patients who need treatment, or to those who specialize in finding faults in paperwork to rescind coverage? How much goes to marketing? How much to lobby against healthcare legislation? How much to defend against lawsuits from those who thought they were covered?

In other words, it would be rather interesting to see a breakdown of the operating expenses and the intake vs. payout scale. With the CEO of United Healthcare making in the neighborhood of $750 million per year, I can't help having a feeling that perhaps the administrative overhead could be slimmed down quite a bit.

Run the damn things as non-profits, regulate the everloving out of them and tell their CEOs that they'll have to make do with just one Gulfstream.
All the info you are wanting to know is easily available... All public companies file these reports with the SEC. Go look it up !

Sure... allow the Gov to regulate the crap out of them and dictate pay. How long before YOU become the one that is regulated next ?

Am I out of touch here? Where the hell do you pay $1200 for eyeglasses?

If you want to see who the real big players are look at the top 52. It should amaze you how well the Resident and Godvernment has helped them out.
by all means.. CEO compensation in this country has gotten WAY out of hand. the gap between executive salary pay outs and their workers is HUGE. and is growing.

But here's my thing. Someone didn't have to die to pay a CEO of say a bank vs. a health insurance company.. who, in order to payout their shareholders , pay out their lobbyists, pay for their advertising costs AND pay their overbloated CEO salaries.. somewhere a long the way has to deny someone (well not just one.. but you get the jist) coverage!!

THAT is why I have a problem with it and it just doesn't sit right with ume. AT ALL.

and.. here's another thing. The "trickle down" theory.. well it's balogne. It seems that the money triclking down from breaks corps get on taxes is only trickling to one or two individuals in teh company. In the meantime employee compensation is stagnant AND further burden for company health care costs being shifted onto the employee with higher contributions toward those premiums..

Im' just sayin.

According to 0bamanomics and health care that is the least you will pay for a pair anywhere... where have you been ? That's why we need a Gov option, to get that cost down some...

Frames are the expensive part. You can get much cheaper by buying generic frames..

Then you can choose Calvin Kelin or Burberry.. THAT is what adds to the cost.

The only wya you add that much more to the lenses is if you are one that wears ashtrays on your eyes normally and you can have a special lense that cuts down on the thickness.

Contacts are so cheap these days compared to what they used to be.

So is this person an idiot because they think Obama is going to lower the costs on designer frames?

So if cost is an issue, what is the complaint here? Buy contacts or buy generic frames. What exactly is the problem? The people that need special lenses?

Thinking that insurance companies are somehow special is foolish. The largest health insurance company is UnitedHealth Group which is so far down the list of profitable companies as to be laughable (45th). This monster company earns not even 1/20 of most of the top companies.
