PHILADELPHIA - Police in Philadelphia say a white officer who came to work with cornrows was ordered by a black superior to get a haircut because the braids violated department standards.
The Philadelphia Daily News reported Monday that Officer Thomas Strain was put on desk duty this month because of the braids, even though the paper reported dozens of black officers wear cornrows.
Maybe he was trying to get assigned to desk duty...in which case you know the Department will have a change in policy once other white officers start doing the same thing.

I live in Philly, and I am hard pressed to think of a single black male cop with braids. As the article points out, there are women with braids but that is so they can wear the their male oriented caps. So, I'm missing the double standard when it comes to male officers.
So anyone who chooses to have desk duty instead of working the street just gets a funny haircut.
That's easier than getting pregnant.
The Union will fight it out, he's had his 15 minutes
Personally I think the rules should be the same for everyone. But cornrolls like spikes and other popularr haircuts are not up to the image of a police officer. However if a city decides to let it ;it is discrimination to not allow certain races to have it ansd another not to.

I use to live in the Philly area for 50 years. I am no longer there but I have Police Officers of all ranks who are my friends still on the force and I cannot see where braids on any officer promotes unity amongst the troops. Race has nothing to do with it and when race is surfaced the person promoting the card needs serious and immediate help.. MSNBC should never even think of posting the event of an officer making his subordinate get with the program and get a haircut....His superior should of just told him to go home without pay and when he decides to get with the program come back to work. But as of now and until he comes back he will be payless....
I too am missing the double standard...? ? ? Unless someone is referring to an unsubstantiated message saying that there were officers wearing corn rows..... Still get with the program or get out of the Philly Police Department.....Philly has so many fantastic Officers on their roles and I also think they are all underpaid....
