The students were simply collateral damage. There was no intent on the part of the police to hurt innocent people and when the cops at the top of the stairs realized their mistake, they allowed the kids to ascend to safety. It was not even 1 minute.
They were not on a balcony either, they were initially on a landing one flight of stairs above Forbes Ave. A very shallow 8 feet away from the street.
They were so close to the action that the restraint of the police should be commended.

Bunch of little drama prince and princesses.
yeah, i am getting bored of having the same arguments over and over again. it's been all g20 all the time in pittsburgh for the last couple of weeks and i'm about done with it.

i don't think the police intended to do what they did, but they screwed up. they were all hopped up and ignored what the kids were saying to them.

and yeah, the police showed great restraint in only teargassing people standing near the protests doing nothing a couple of times. just like they showed great restraint in only arresting 110 people sitting around in a park. give me a break.

That's right!

Because Americans are authoritarian.

I'd have taught my child to respect the police and to stay out of situations and trouble.

if everyone would just stay out of situations, what a wonderful world it would be!

the students in the stairwell video were completely respectful of the police, and tried to do what the police told them to do. it was just impossible.

Staying out of situations is pretty much the best way to get enslaved.

I agree. The University of Pittsburgh should be teaching these kids to be good little consumers and not question our corporate overlords.
