Too may amendments, make a simple bill, not some 10,000 page monstrisity where everyone can find some detail to villify. Its been gutted by both sides now. The same thing was done with immigration reform.
Obama should have put forth a very simple understandable bill. Let the Republicans fight it, let it get voted down, then when Americans are angry he can blame them. The Republicans could have done the same. Then the Democrats can redraw districts in 2010 with the census.
Frankly I think Obama has tried to be bipartisan far more than Bush and it has been harmful to him. Ram something through like Bush did, the Patriot Act, NCLB, and his tax cuts. then if the people like it he gets reelected. If they don't he is gone and it gets abolished or left to expire.

But the news gets even worse in the preceding age demographics, with majorities in opposition among voters in their 30s (57%), 40s (65%), and 50-64 (58%). Among the 40s, a majority are strongly opposed (54%).
