I vistited. Along with much of the rest of South America. I saw what was going on with my own two eyes.
Guys like Morales and Chavez are pulling their countries out of abject poverty. They are seriously improving the quality of life in their countries.
They aren't perfect of course and some of their strategies are a bit totalitarian, but what they are doing is pulling people up out of horrible poverty that you all probably cannot even comprehend. Overall I think they are doing something very good for their own countries.
It's bad for US interests though. So US media portrays these guys as being awful dictators, which is not true.
I am not right wing...I am libertarian. Any leader exerting that much power is dangerous to liberty. Whenever people trust a "leader" enough to gather power over their lives, those "leaders" will soon extinguish those lives.

I agree that this is a risk.
But the truth is, the USA was contolling South American countries with an iron grip economically. And lots of people in South America were POOR. I saw lots of things in South America that would make a person cry.
These guys are pulling them out of that poverty and they are breaking that control that the US has over them. Although their style is totalitarian in some ways, it is a HUGE improvement from where these countries were at before.
If they want to be Socialist, who cares? Like Chavez said "We just want to be ourselves." Let them be socialist if it works for them.
Why do Americans always think they can tell other countries what to do?
Agreed. I don't really think that it is our business what Chavez does to his people. But I can say he should scare anyone who believes in freedom and I wouldn't feel any sympathy if he were burned alive.
I am all for Americans staying out of other people's business. That does not mean that we should not voice our disapproval of tyrants.

The tyrants have infiltrated the US Governement. Especially in the past decade. They are our own politicians and business leaders.
We need to worry about the tyrants around here before pointing the finger at other countries. Our "democracy" has become a sham and across the world people can see that.
The tyrants in the USA hide behind an illusion of democracy of liberty, but it's just an illusion.

There are far too many examples of what happens when a leader or government takes away freedoms and liberties from it's people. Most range from bad to extremely bad. I think that's why Americans frown upon Chavez.
If you don't live there now you probably should since it's so great... Pack up and get !
That;s the best that you can do.
Pathetic response.
