I can see the value of investigating and potentially trying Cheney, Rumsfeld and their cronies but I also believe Bush never really realized the consequences of his actions.
While obviously execution is absurd and unjustified, it's kind of funny how all the usual suspects of the far right came to this thread and proposed it absurd that Bush could even be guilty of a crime at all without any substantiating evidence. They just need to believe they would never support criminal behavior, so they deny it.
The only reason they haven't been convicted is because it was not politically viable to pursue it. By the letter of the law, though, the Bush administration is guilty of blatant crimes.
