Yes it exists... what your problem is, is that you can't understand there are social conservatives, fiscal conservatives, or whatever conservatives... liberals like to generalize other people so that its easier to attack them...

Conservatism is the political philosophy of corporatism, religion, and having the government step in and tell it's citizens what they may or may not do (gay marriage, abortion, smoking pot, etc.,) in the name of "morality" or "family values."

Conservatism basically believes that the original intent in our founding documents be continued and preserved, and that government should be limited in its power.

Liberalism teaches that you should be forced by the government to accept gay marriage, abortion, etc............

I thought the Supreme Court was the preserver of the original intent in our founding documents. I guess if you're not gay or want an abortion or etc. you got nothing to worry about. eh? Nobody is saying you have to have an abortion or you have to be gay.

Except that's not true. Conservatism is a very pro-big government philosophy.

When you ask that the government deny gays the right to marriage, to tell pregnant women what they can or cannot do with their bodies, or to arrest and imprison people for smoking pot, then you support big government.

Conservatives love to boost how they all stand for limited government, individualism, and freedom, but in reality, they do not support any of those ideals.

What you're referring to is NEO conservativism. A "neo con" is usually someone who was once a liberal or a Democrat that has always embraced big government to play a part in people's lives. Somewhere along the line, they switched parties and basically carried most of their pro government philosophies with them to the Republican side. "Neo cons" favor massive U.S. intervention in foreign policy. They also favor the government to restrict or ban abortion to protect the unborn. It's really ironic because liberals traditionally favor the same kind of government intervention for protectionist reasons. That's why I NEVER think of the pro life/anti choice crowd as conservative. Their reasons for limiting or banning abortion are really more on the lines of what bleeding heart liberals believe.

Traditional conservativism, on the other hand, traces back to the philosophies of people like Barry Goldwater, William F. Buckley, or Milton Friedman who strongly believed in keeping the government limited. They favored individual freedom, fiscal restraint, and taking responsibility for one's actions. The only place where they believed in more government was in the line of defense ... but that was simply to secure our borders and preserve our liberties. However, traditional conservatives have always been opposed to a large military presence in foreign affairs, including foreign aid.

Nowadays, people who share the beliefs of Goldwater, Buckley, and Friedman are classified as Libertarians. The GOP has basically shut itself off from the Libertarian principles it once stood for ... so now, all that's really left are religious fanatics and social conservatives who want a larger government presence.

So, judging by YOUR generalization I guess YOU are a liberal, correct?

Or is it NeoConfuseds also like to generalize when it suits their whine?

Conservatism, is what I am! I believe that there is only one thing federal government should be doing and that is funding our Military and national defense! Everything else should be done at the state and local level! I practice it every time I vote.
