"....they measure and define as "maximum authoritarian" types show much lower support for gay marriage and gay adoption (19 percent, 28 percent) than do "minimum authoritarians" (71 percent, 89 percent). Maximums are three times more likely than minimums to support the government use of wiretaps without a warrant in the war on terror (60 percent to 19 percent), and four times more likely to say it is unacceptable to criticize the president about fighting terrorism (33 percent to 8 percent).
Remember this next time some right winger spouts off about how much they love "freedom" in the USA

The term "politically correct" and all that comes with it didn't originate with religious Christian fundamentalists.
Some college campuses rank up there with enforcing a rather rigid orthodoxy when it comes which public speakers are welcome to express their ideas on campus.
Same with any town that is overwhelmingly one-sided in their social and political beliefs, such as Berkeley, CA.
Those people love the word "freedom". As long as they say that word, see it in many places, hear it from their beloved pundits, they believe everything is just hunky-dory!

Exactly! Authoritarianism comes in both conservative and liberal flavors. Think Stalin, Lenin, and modern day speech codes, etc.

Your best example is liberally motivated college speech codes?
As compared right wings majority support for illegal wire tapping, illegal torture, continuous preemptive wars, government secrecy, legislating that gays cannot adopt, and the belief that we should not question the Commander-in-Chief (when the Right holds the office of President of course)
I'm a liberal who believes in very high levels of freedom for individuals. Unfortunately, many Americans - both on the left and the right - aren't comfortable with that.
I'm disappointed whenever I see anyone suggest that we need new laws that decrease freedoms for individuals and private businesses. I'll even go as far as saying that I think private businesses should be able to refuse hiring types of people they don't like.

To you, Stalin and Lenin were liberals?
