PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Industrial hemp is legal in Oregon but growers say they can't get on with their business until the federal government change its policies.

The Oregon Legislature this year legalized industrial hemp, but Washington still classifies it as an illegal drug in the same category as marijuana, leading to little progress for the state's nascent industry, The (Portland) Oregonian reported Sunday.

How sad. I lived in Portland Oregon for a time. I used to joke that Portland was the meth amphetamine capital of the world.

I can't speak for Europe, but, I have several natural hemp fiber ropes, I prefer it over synthetics for many purposes. It all has to be imported (at least the raw material does) because it's illegal to grow industrial hemp. So we're forced to import any natural hemp rope or other hemp products. The U.S. used to be a major producer of hemp before the ban. Hemp paper is superior to wood pulp paper, it lasts longer. Our founding documents were written on it. Ironic that the material they wrote on, and some of the founding fathers grew, is now banned from being grown.

I'm sorry, Jefferson County (south of STL and home of an extremely large concentration ignorant white trash), Missouri has the highest meth lab bust rate.

And I don't want marijuana legalized - it will be of poorer quality, the government will put filter tips on it, and it will be taxed worse that sh*tty tobacco cigarettes!
