I've read the book before, but it had been about 15 years ago, back in high school. Back then, I didn't see this country mirroring anything in the book. I was a good Party member. Now, I see so many parallels between the book and our country, it's almost frightening.

If you see any 1984 references in my posts, you now know the inspiration.

Great read...I to was compelled to re-read the book. I noticed it resting between "Great Battles of World War II" and "The Federalist Papers".

yes- i will have to re-read that- its been awhile- "Bushworld" also reflects the Orwellian atmosphere we have right now.

I always thought soma = Halcion.

One of the best books ever written. Frightening when you look at what's happened/happening in the UK. I have not yet read "Brave New World" because I can't find it in my local library--with about 20 branches in one county!
