Why, as American citizens, is their opinion less important than that of the proverbial "Granny Grumpus" or Mrs. Grundy ? The people who should have been told to "shut UP" were the Bush/********/Cheney/Rice gang and their Czftz*#@# fearmongering tactics for scaring the s#@*^^ out of us with their lies about WMD"S.

No one ever said their opinion was less important. My beef is that they try to use their celebrity to influence others who they believe to be "sheep" who worship them as celebrities.
When celebrities use their fame to push their political agendas, boycotts are appropriate and not at all childish.
If people would realize that celebrities are just people and not some wise scholar than they're opinions would cease to matter....but of course that won't happen.

Wow. I see crazy is running rampant all over this forum. She's ugly and I don't like her so she deserves to die!

Yes, but talk show hosts such as Rush & Beck do the same thing & I see people on this forum every single day take their word as the end all to be all. Have you called those people sheep? Because those guys are celebrities as well, in a different venue. I have NEVER seen anyone bring up something an actor said & glorify it.

No no no, it's not being ugly. It's because she's "ghetto" when she wants to be. Come on nataly, get w/it!!

Oh ok my bad...yeah you're right when I think of Oprah "ghetto" is the first thing that pops to mind. I guess Judge Judy and Nancy Grace better look out too.

I know, I totally think ghetto. I also think "man, she is a horrible human being---the charitable things she's done for others...HORRIBLE!!!"
Rush, Peck, Mathews, MadCow, Oberslum and O'Reilly are all just Woodchucks! They are not the Hollywood Elite!

You can place Larry King, "The View" and Oprah in the Hollywood Elitist category but those other guys are just woodchucks and are not part of the Hollywood Industrial Complex!
Whoopie is on "The View" and she was also Gynan, which was one of my favorite Star Trek TNG characters! Larry King has been in many movies playing himself and so has Barbara Walters. Oprah is a Producer and is Filthy rich from all of her Hollywood exposee's! Boycotting them would be more effective than trying to Boycott the Woodchucks I mentioned earlier!

Hmm, well since I have intention of boycotting something that gives me pleasure, your posts have no weight w/me. Sorry.
So...we should boycott shows like "Star Trek" because they had a moral, and were trying to influence people? I understand, I guess, television is supposed to be a vast wasteland and mindless entertainment. Let's not have people thinking...

You obviously take your politics seriously, so try this as a thought experiment: Fate, talented acting or blind luck has placed you in a spot where you have a larger audience than you'd normally have.
Wouldn't you at least be tempted to make your case? Wouldn't it, in fact, be your duty to try to navigate your country in the direction you saw as the better one?
There's plenty of people with resources leveraging influence through the traditional methods of PACs or fund-raising or favor-trading behind the scenes. With a celebrity speaking out, at least they're putting their face and name to their opinions.
The Hollywood elite aren't actors - they hire actors - and their names wouldn't resonate with the public, anyway.
