Dru Lechert-Kelly, 11, a fifth-grader at Llewellyn Elementary School in Southeast Portland, decided to dress up like his role model and dance to a popular YouTube song that features an Obama look-alike dancing to a parody called "I Can Do Whatever I Like."

Dru performed the skit in front of teachers and students during a rehearsal for Llewellyn's annual talent show Thursday. He wore a navy blue suit, white shirt, red tie, black shoes and an Obama mask purchased at a costume shop. The choreographed routine ended with Dru on the floor in the splits.

"He practiced for weeks," said Scott Lechert, 50, an instructional designer, who along with his partner, Paul Kelly, 55, a physical therapist, adopted Dru from a Romanian orphanage in 1999 at age 1 1/2. Both dads helped Dru design his stage props -- a desk with a large presidential seal stuck to the front with duct tape. And both coached their son to "have lots of bop" and "use your shoulders" during his routine.

After Thursday's performance, the "crowd went wild," Dru said. But so did some of the adults in the audience.

But what bothers him most is that anyone would think he'd do anything that might offend his hero: Barack Obama.
When asked what he liked most about the new president, Dru said, "He said he would try to change the world and make the economy better."
Lechert pushed his son to tell the whole truth.
"Well, also because somebody told me he has a Wii all hooked up to a huge flatscreen in the White House. That's cool."
I suppose he does.

Yes everyone will know this white boy is suppose to be Obama.

So much for living in America. Gotta watch out you might offend someone over Obama.

I am so sick of this PC junk. Long as it does not physically harm anyone let the boy do his show

He doesn't have to be Obama to dance in a school talent show. Why does this bother you? It's a school talent show with only kids, parents and teachers having anything to do with it. Rules are made and imposed all the time. I guarentee that every minute of every day something is happening somewhere that you wouldn't think it "fair" but it's not always up to us to decide these things.

Here is the thing why cant?

It bothers the heck out of me. This is America and because of this pc stuff this little boy cant do something he worked hard to do. For no reason

What message do you think is being sent to this little boy, Work hard, Practice, then I'm going to tell you you cant wear something the president wore because it might upset someone.

Grow some thicker skin people the president can wear it but no one else can. Get real

because it has something to do with Obama. Everything and anything that has to do with Obama is newsworthy if it can be seen in a negative light.

While personally I don't think the mask is offensive; I'm sure there are some parents who do. I would have more of an issue with the words than the mask but I'm sure there are other parents who thought the words were hysterical.

Good grief. What exactly is wrong with this young man doing this? HOW is it offensive? WHY would it be? It didn't sound as if it was vulgar, racist or rude and crude.

It's no different than if it were done with a Bush mask, a Nixon mask, or any other historical or popular figure.

We've become waaaaaaaay too touchy as a society. I don't recall ever seeing that I have the right not to be offended or have my wittle feeelings hurt...

...which I can't imagine this doing.

This doesnt have anything to do with Obama for me but more so how this country has become a bunch of babies and we have to watch what we say and do because we might offend someone.
