And just watch. The liberals and dems will COMPLETELY ignore the fact that all of this is factual and criticize it for coming from an email. A lot of the same dems and libs who repeatably use Wikipedia as a source. So I while go ahead and say, PEOPLE, the source is irrelevant if the information is true. If you criticize this based on it coming from an email while you provide NO factual or logical rebuttal, you will make yourself look like a lazy fool.

This came from a terrific email I got today (Sorry it's so long, but worth the read). Can anyone prove that ONE word of it isn't true? If not, then the dems really need to be quiet regarding SS.

Franklin Delanor Roosevelt (Terms of Office March 4, 1933, to April 12, 1945), a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He Promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary,
2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program,
3.) That the money the participants elected to put Into the Program would be deductible from Their income for tax purposes each year,
4.) That the money the participants put into the Independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would Only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money wepaid to the Federal government to 'Put Away' -- you may be interested in the following:

1958 is the first year that Congress, not President Eisenhower, voted to remove funds from Social Securityand put it into the General Fund for Congress to spend. It was a democratically controlled Congress. Congress's logic at that time was that there was so much money in Social Security Fund that it would never run out / be used up for the purpose it was intended / set aside for.

Question: Which Political Party took Social Security from the Independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the General Fund so that Congress could spend it?

Answer: It was Lyndon B. Johnson (Democrat, Term of Office: November 22,1963 to January 20, 1969) and the democratically Controlled House and Senate.

Question: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax Deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

Answer: The Democratic Party.

Question: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?

Answer: The Democratic Party, with Albert Arnold Gore, Jr. (Al Gore) [Vice President Term of Office: January 10, 1993 to January 20, 2001 ] casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US .

Question: Which Political Party decided to start giving Annuity payments to immigrants?

AND MY FAVORITE:

ANSWER: That's right! JAMES EARL CARTER, JR. (JIMMY CARTER) (DEMOCRAT, TERM OF OFFICE: JANUARY 20, 1977 TO JANUARY 20, 1981 AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY.
IMMIGRANTS MOVED INTO THIS COUNTRY, AND AT AGE 65, BEGAN TO RECEIVE SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS: THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY GAVE THESE PAYMENTS TO THEM, EVEN THOUGH THEY NEVER PAID A DIME INTO IT!

Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!

Sorry - but it's up to the person who's spewing the nonsense to prove that it's true. Don't throw crap up on a board and challenge others to do your research for you.

Good god, man. You get it in an email and your willing to say it's true - and condemn anybody who scoffs at it - without researching it? How credulous are you?

no need to vote it out of office, just declare the social security program to be based upon a federal felony and is therefore illegal.

dump it in its entirety and tell policians that any attempt in trying to get it going again would constitute a felony and be prosecuted as such.

snopes.com: Social Security Changes

actually, the dictator fdr pushed his unconstitutional programs through the SCOTUS by telling them that if they did not declare them constitutional, he (fdr) would pack the SCOTUS with his cronies.

thats history.

as such, we the people are stuck with a bunch of unconstitutional programs that never should have been.

If you've done the research, then back it up. Don't just post a crappy email. Show us the evidence.

FACT: There has never been any change in the way the Social Security program is financed or the way that Social Security payroll taxes are used by the federal government. The Social Security Trust Fund was created in 1939 as part of the Amendments enacted in that year. From its inception, the Trust Fund has always worked the same way. The Social Security Trust Fund has never been "put into the general fund of the government."

Answer: The Democratic Party.
FACT: There was never any provision of law making the Social Security taxes paid by employees deductible for income tax purposes. In fact, the 1935 law expressly forbid this idea, in Section 803 of Title VIII.

FACT: The taxation of Social Security began in 1984 following passage of a set of Amendments in 1983, which were signed into law by President Reagan in April 1983. These amendments passed the Congress in 1983 on an overwhelmingly bi-partisan vote.

The basic rule put in place was that up to 50% of Social Security benefits could be added to taxable income, if the taxpayer's total income exceeded certain thresholds.

The taxation of benefits was a proposal which came from the Greenspan Commission appointed by President Reagan and chaired by Alan Greenspan (who went on to later become the Chairman of the Federal Reserve).
