I can answer that. It's more about laws than government. For instance, regarding mind-altering drugs, they are illegal because they are harmful to society.
As for same-sex "marriage," most conservatives are against it because we need to preserve society. An "anything-goes" society is bound to be doomed. BTW, many conservatives do no oppose civil unions.

Most Republicans oppose civil unions, so you're in the minority of your party.

And I hope I don't see you making any comments about how you want government out of people's lives, because it's clear that you actually do want government intrusion in our personal lives.

No, you actually want government intrusion when it comes to issues that you personally find offensive or distasteful. It has nothing to do w/what is or isn't harmful to society. Gay marriage is not harmful to society, nor does it have any sort of effect on the preservation of society (whatever that means). You simply do not wish for them to have the same rights as you do, which I find distasteful.

if by progressive you mean wacky Karl Marx "workers of the world unite" and all that goof ball junk that Barry and party believe in then uh...no....
expanding spending on the military to defend foreign countries (and not seeing any real payoff) while cutting spending on social programs for needy American citizens is your definition of "progression"....goodness, don't make me vomit...

To answer the question. In point of fact the progressives out number the nut cases rather handily. We just are as prolific in starting threads and trolling in general.

Keep an eye out for:

ButterBrownBiscuit
Helenejen
Kafar
Katinana
SLCPUNK
Tigerlilly
TubourgP
Delusianne
Jetgraphics
Saganista
Mike From Back East
Hilltopper (he might not be a progressive but he's sane)
NatalayJones
idahogie
Sonrise

And a few others whose names escape me at the moment
I wish I hadn't seen that list. I don't like to use prog for most of those people but I guess I will have to from now on since you listed them as progressives which I just shorten down to prog. I hope not too many dislike that name as much as those I attacked with it originally.

Independent and critical thinker here. One time green now becoming a doomerist. I do try to talk sense but no one listens. But then i'm assuming the question was aimed at the Americans?

How do you know what I want? You know what my views are on every issue?
As I said, it is more about laws than intrusion. Some people confuse the two.

As for homosexual "marriage" not being harmful to society, that is an opinion, not a fact.

There is hope for the US and the planet....it people stopped being so selfish, pulled their hands out of the sand, forsaked capitalism and the almighty dollar, and actually started thinking and working together....

But since that will never happen....yeah...we are pretty much doomed.

That and we can't sustain a population of nearly 7 billion and rising.
