He hit it out of the park when he made his point about how sad is it that we live in a country where the people who can afford to live, get to live.

We've been over this in another thread and debunked its relevancy. The 6% figure is for line items that were refused, not entire claims. It's disingenuous in the extreme to compare one to the other.

I don't understand why the opponents of this reform won't address this simple issue, except to say that if we "force" people with greater wealth to put more into the system, that those less fortunate are "stealing" from them. They seem to care more about the false premise that progressive taxation is theft than they do about the crime of allowing people to go bankrupt and die because they got sick or seriously injured.

This whole thing with the health care reminds me of a scene from Married with Children that still cracks me up to this day. Bud and Kelly are standing outside freezing for some reason, I think they're locked out of their hous. Kelly is like "help us", and she's like, "I can't, I'm a republican."

culling of the herd ... it's not only survival of the fittest, but survival of the fortunate.

There's a lot of Republicans....Conservatives who believe that's exactly what should happen. And a lot of them proudly proclaim their pride in that concept.

Until of course, someone more " fortunate " suggest that they themselves or their loved ones should be part of the herd that needs to be culled.

Then the backpeddling begins.

It's a very fickle and dangerous concept. You never know where the culling leads to.

This is so very true. Some people honestly seem unable to grasp the concept that it all rolls downhill.....and there is ALWAYS someone above you to shove it on down. I well remember how many auto workers use to complain about help for the less fortunate. They would cuss about food stamps and help for the homeless, etc. Now thousands of those same people are signing up for food stamps and losing their own homes. There are a lot of folks right here on this forum that do not know that 2 years from now they may very well be losing their homes because their insurance companies pulled the rug out from under them too.

[quote=ATXIronHorse;11099764]Ask the majority of Chinese making $100-$200 a month how much they are rolling in the dough. REF:China Average Salary Income - Job Comparison

And I don't get the "socialism for the rich" argument when the richest 1 percent of Americans forks over 31.1 percent of its income to the federal government. REF: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/16/bu...4.6680311.html

I'm sure you don't,gee having to fork over 3% more than the guy who makes 50K
and here they only get over 50% of total national income does seem a very difficult rightist math problem.

Well then, you are welcome to protest against it.

I'm not suggesting I agree or disagree with Olberman's assessments, I'm only saying that he made a good case on behalf of health care reform from the point of John Q Citizen.

Not everyone in America is into politics and the nuts and bolts of this issue or that, but just as the tea party protest organizers appealed to peoples emotions to illicit a given response, so too did Keith Olberman. In addition, I'm seeing this take place on a wide front and I'm rather taken aback to be honest.

As people like Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, and myself chide Democrats, and especially Liberals, for being something akin to hauling frogs in a wheel barrow or herding angry cats because they more often than not they tend to self destruct and implode. While they bicker amongst themselves, they often get little done and recent history is replete with examples of this. So to see a concerted effort by Democrats on anything is rather surprising to me. It is one aspect of politics where Republicans generally kick their backsides as they tend to vote in unison and Democrats don't.

That is all I'm saying.
