Actually? Yes. Business calls and emergencies only. Where you're going this weekend, or after work? NOT an emergency.
Business calls are on the company's phone, cell phone calls are personal business, and have no place at work. Not that there should be an enforceable law on the subject--it should be self-enforcing.
Ridiculous. I have a professional career where my employer doesn't care what I do as long as I get things done. We have no cell phone policy. We aren't treated like children... if we were, I wouldn't work here.
wow all this cause some trucker had a smoke . next you will be policing his farts. heck just starting his truck is like smoking 2 cartons. what a bunch of control freaks
Police officers can't smoke in their cars, firemen can't smoke in their trucks, bus drivers can't smoke in their busses (although amazingly, I actually saw a guy smoking a cigarette while waiting for the kids to be let out of school yesterday...w/the door closed I might add), ambulance drivers can't smoke in their vehicles....so, what's the problem here? It's a company vehicle, is it not? These truckers don't actually own these trucks do they?
Actually, many, many of them do. Ever hear of an "independent owner/operator"?

I will HAPPILY buy you a bus ticket to Toronto if you'd be willing to permanently relocate. That offer also stands for anyone else who makes a similar statement.
Generally? I'm afraid you are unaware of those who do not own their trucks TK. Like those that drive for the Nationals - Swift, Knight etc
Actually, a lot of the trucks in those large fleet organizations are owned by independents. They operate under the company's authority, with the company's name on the side, but the company doesn't own the trucks.
Those trucks are very expensive, and it's much cheaper for a company to hire a bunch of independents than to build (and maintain) their own fleets.

I like the way Canada is run compared to the USA. This is mainly on the fact that they have universal health care, and they have much tougher anti smoking laws. However, I would not want to live there. I absolutely detest snow, and cold weather, so Canada is not for me.

HA! Can't believe how many times i've heard that. "We in the US are so morons, we should do everything just like (insert name of a random socialist nanny-state here) do... and when you ask, why won't you just move there, the borders are wide open, you get the "NO! Absolutely no! Never! I don't want to because..."
