OSLO - President Barack Obama on Friday won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee said Obama was honored for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."
Some on Nobel Peace panel reluctant on Obama: report - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091015/ts_nm/us_nobel_jury - broken link)
Quote:
VG said one of the newly elected members, Aagot Valle from the Socialist Left Party, had strong objections to giving the prize to Obama.
"I had expected a debate, especially around the issues I find problematic, the war in Afghanistan," Valle told daily Bergens Tidende earlier this week.
Can you imagine the flack the committee must have received to be airing their dirty laundry in public?
Difficult to see how this could be bad for the US.

It isn't. You know people have gone off the deep end when such a prestigious
award goes to our president and people complain. When he announces which charity/charities will receive the money he donates, that will be wrong, too.
The constant barrage of non-issues grows monotonous.
Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize is a joke. I am sorry to say, I know some people on here agree with me and some don't, I am not trying to stir anything up, but geese-have they lowered the standards on the qualification criteria for the Novel Peace Prize or what?! He has done nothing to win this award...sorry. And I do not think that he should've won it JUST BECAUSE he isn't Bush, gimme a break...SNL-puh-leeze.
I agree. "Feed the hungry, heal the sick, house the poor." Definitely not the campaign slogan of a Republican.
JustNancy: this is all that needs to be said. With that, I'm going to stop coming back to this thread. I have to admit that I have been "small" enough to want to come back again just to see what all the "haters" have been saying. And that's really not what I am about at all; further, as another poster said, imagine what we could accomplish if we were concerned about real issues. So. I'm done with this thread. I and everyone else had plenty of time and space to say what they wanted to say.
Blessings to everyone -- including the Republicans.
This is even more embarrassing, but still won't compare to the spectacle of obama prancing in front of the cameras, once again, to pick up his truly irrelevant award.
You know, I just don't understand how the majority could have objected if he was voted to receive the prize. Something just does not compute with that link.

And it's just killing people that none of their dire prophecies have come to pass. The country is changing and the world is changing...it's the nature of life. Made me think of this:
