Finally something to distract those one track republicans from health care.

New Rule: Everyone deserves equal rights. That's why they're called "equal" and "rights." Tomorrow night President Obama will speak before a gay rights group, and on Sunday there will be a massive gay rally in Washington, or as I call it, the Million Mo March. Which makes this weekend the perfect time for Obama to announce he's repealing "don't ask, don't tell" and committing to a full-throated endorsement of gay marriage. One, because it's the right thing to do and two, because it will throw the conservative base into such a frenzied, pants-****ting panic that they'll drop all that BS about death panels and socialism and let us all get some actual work done.
I wish those in the GLT community would look at the entire picture.
1) GLT leaders in the military have asked that he not do a "stop-law" and actually get ligislation passed
2) It takes time to pass legislation
3) He has only been in office 9 months. Actually, less than 9 months
I know that we all have issues that are important to US. But before you get pissy with this president, ask yourself... would John McCain have advocated for you? Did George Bush advocate for you? Is it reasonable given all that we have going on in this country RIGHT NOW, that we should expect this to be the #1 issue for the president from the moment he entered office?
All I can say is: the president gave a speech he could have given at any point in the last three years. No one in that room could disagree with any of the things he said.
But the point of electing a president who pledged to actually do things is to hold him to account, and to see if he is willing to take any risk of any kind to actually do something. I had a few prior tests of his seriousness or signs that he gets it, a few ways to judge if this speech had anything new or specific or clear. He failed every test.
This speech offered less than the cocktail party speech for the A-listers back in June.
The expectations were very high. The president spoke for approximately 25 minutes. And, tonight, he did not deliver anything new or exciting. He did not assuage our concerns.
Only the short-sighted, shallow dimwits focusing on gay rights fail to see that Obama is not stupid enough to perform a morale-busting policy stunt in the midst of a "war of necessity".
Seems to me that if allowing gays to serve openly is considered "morale-busting", those who are upset about it are the ones who have the problem. Perhaps they should get over it & focus on the mission at hand.

Remind me to NOT hold my breath! . Less rhetoric and more action; like his signature on an Executive Order...only takes a minute...to do what is right and what he already promised many times before????
DADT was passed as law - it needs to be repealed.
