Should education perpeptuate myths?????

Or tell the truth????? I vote for truth.
So your position is that what the teacher told the class is accurate and truthful? That would explain a lot.

BTW, please tell me where in my post I claimed any of the bolded comment you added. If you have trouble staying on task please skip my thread.

And by the way, how do you want the kids/schools to "observe" Columbus Day? Put together a play, Broadway musical, pep rally, what??? Our kids went to school as always. My husband went to work. What else is there?

Oh, as far as the majority in my town- it is 99.8% white, mostly Christian and conservative. So, don't blame the "Hispanic majority" at your son's school and make them out to be the ones to blame because I doubt that it's true.
People who live in ivory towers shouldn't throw loud and ugly stones.

So you also believe that before Columbus arrived, there were no wars to be had in the Americas?

Not in the same sense that happened after his arrival.

I recall, some years ago, my daughter was doing a year of high school in the UK. One of her subjects was modern studies and there just happened to be a general election on during the class. The teacher was able to use the election to animate the subject matter. Yet my daughter - who passed the class with an A - never did figure out which side the teacher was on. That is good teaching.
I took two courses in comparative religion in college and nobody EVER could figure out what religion the teacher was. He laughed at us when we asked and said 'That would't be the point, would it?'. 10 years later I remember that answer and to this day he was one of my favorite teachers.

Regarding Columbus... we didn't observe the day in school either, but we also didn't get the PC version of his life. We learned the bad, and the good and I am very thankful of that.

I don't think that's a Freudian slip...I think it's a typo...after all the "m" and "n" keys are next to each other.

Did some fighting occur before? Perhaps, but not the mass killings that went on after.
