Could we maybe all agree that allowing your family to appear on a reality show....especially one called "wife swap"......would mean you ARE "white trash.?"

The higher prices also limits the number of shoppers when compared to Wal-Mart so their stores are not as crowded. And the type of shoppers are upper class. Many people shop at Target to avoid interacting with the low socioeconomic crowds found at Wal-Mart.

Thanks for the clarification, but I'm not familiar with Publix v. Piggly Wiggly...

Interesting take on the Target v. WalMart though,
people's perceptions are just that.

But still doesn't answer my question, isn't disorganized and dirty just that?

Seriously though, I'd hazard a guess that the blue-blood ridiculously rich upper class folks would'nt be bothered in either store themselves...that's what personal assistants and house staff are for!

Do people really think that they are upper crust because they shop at TARGET instead of Walmart??? Seriously?

that's crazy.

All people who live in trailer parks, smoke, curse in public, or have a certain breed of a dog are white trash? Wow, the sweeping generalizations in this thread are astounding; then again, from what I usally read in these forums I don't know why I'm surprised.

Because the black equivalent of "white trash" is "ghetto" that's why. N****r is a derogatory term that is applied to all blacks regardless of their class or social status.

Technically the definition of the word ****** had no racist attatchments to it.

But over a few centuries the word was often used by people in a racist context, with racist actions and attrocities supporting the verbal context.

Traditionally, the term White Trash did not really have a racist context behind it. Although, discrimination and prejudice are sometimes the actions which support the verbal context of the term White Trash.

Ultimately, in today's world the term White Trash has developed and it has been transformed to a point where it can/and is used in a racist verbal context.

But the dtermining factor is ....what's the context of using the term. i.e. .....Who is using the term and why they are using the term.

Some Black people do use the term in a racist context.

Certain White People use the the term in an arrogant (Hollier than thou) context, to raise themselves up above the individual targets of their White Trash context. Apparently, it makes them feel superior about themselves to do so.

Some White People use the term White Trash, when they are angry or outraged by the actions of certain white individuals; who behave in a disruptive, destructive, self-absorbed, selfish manner that indicates poor manners, poor consideration for others, poor hygiene and poor self-esteem.

Both Black and white people use the term White Trash in a affectionate and endearing manner.

So to summarize. Words are only words. It's the individual intent and context of each individual using the word; that determines definiton.

Personally, I'd rather people speak their mind and say what they think and feel. Because for those that are harbouring hate, it's much better to know thy enemy.

I have no respect for people who are too cowardly too look me in the eye and say what's on their mind or what they feel. I'd rather know up front where I stand with someone.

Rather than having a spineless weasel hiding in the shadows talking sh*t behind my back.

That's why I can't stand Politcal Correctness.

Life is short. I have no time for cowards and petty, emotionally-juvenile people.

So you love to sterotype. That's a bit Trashy, don't you think?

The bottom line is that every race has its fair share of trash. So who really cares. There's yellow trash, black trash, brown trash and, yes, white trash. Here, in the city of Atlanta, you see alot of black trash and some brown, yellow and white trash. You venture out into the rural parts of GA and you'll find plenty of white trash and a small amount of black trash.

Mere classifications spoken by insecure people, who need to reaffirm themselves; at the someone else's expense.

All people lose their tempers at times in their lives or get fed up with certain situations and let loose a few cross words from their lips. It's natural. We're human beings, afterall.

But when you need to routinely analyze and evaluate other's and classify them in this manner, it says more about your character and self-esteem; than it does about the people you're trying to denigrate and classify.

It say more about your life, too.
