Basically people don't take issue with interracial love making or sex scenes as long as the guy is white. If he's another color and the chick is white, honestly some people do cringe at that.
That's the point I think Will Smith was intimating.
Try to imagine Samuel L Jackson and Scarlet Johansen instead of Billy Bob and Halle Berry. It is inconceivable that the movie would have even been made in the first place, much less that Johansen would go on to win an Academy Award for it.

I can't, and I've been trying to think of an example since I read the OP. Actually, I didn't even know about the black man/white woman in The Wire (I've never seen it). Still thinking...
But the Wire is not the silver screen either with the A-List actors I mentioned.
Coming to think of it Fishburn had a white girl-friend also in Matrix as well.
Denzel Washington refused a sex scene with Julie Roberts. He said it might have been a let-down to his numerous African American female fans.
And Washinton also refused a role in a movie, which would have included a sex scene with Michelle Pheiffer. That time he turned it down because the film had the "N" word in it.
