Obama is in a real pickle concerning Afghanistan. It would be very hard to send 40,000 troops to Afghanistan when the citizens of the country have no faith in the Karzai government. The election was a fraud and it's too late in the year to have a run off election. Even if Obama approved the troops today, it would take most of 2010 to get them and their equipment in place.
The Pakistani army is organized to fight a conventional war with India. It's like a steamroller. Moves slow but crushes everything in it's path. I expect that the border area is flooded with drones and American spec. ops are coordinating with Pakistani forces to hunt and kill pockets of Taliban and Al Qaeda as they find and isolate them.
Latest polls indicate that 60% of Americans do not approve sending more troops to Afghanistan.

you are right, my bad. (in my defense, it is hard to keep track of all the money that is being thrown around). i will now ask the question of how many americans approve of giving 7.5 BILLION DOLLARS to pakistan.

it should also be noted that not too long ago we were funding the taliban because they were (based on their religion) destroying the opium crops, or at least that was what was purported to be the reason for our funding of the taliban at the time. the problem we have with all of these "wars" is that the reasons change, the friends change, and the enemies change depending on who is in power at the time. i suggest most americans would be more comfortable with dealing with america's problems right here and right now. in reality, it seems that the "enemy", if so inclined, could just march across our unsecured borders if they so chose.....
