SYDNEY (Oct. 18) - A 16-year-old Australian steered her bright pink yacht out of Sydney Harbor on Sunday to start her bid to become the youngest person to sail solo and unassisted around the world.

Jessica Watson's plan to make a 23,600-mile (38,000-kilometer) journey through some of the world's most treacherous waters sparked a debate in Australia about whether someone so young should be allowed to try such a potentially dangerous feat.

True, I don't know the circumstances but this
makes one wonder just how capable she is!
" Last month, her yacht collided with a cargo ship as she sailed toward Sydney "

But, I hope she has a successful and satisfying voyage

To me it is stupid what she is doing...way to young and her first try resulted in a crash the first day!

A girl from the Netherlands went to court to become the youngest at the age of 14 and her mother is against it, the father in favor...the court ruled in favor of the mother and the girl has to proof that she is capable before the court will make an additional decision!

A 16-year-old Australian girl will begin her bid to become the youngest round-the-world solo sailor today, her spokesman said, defying calls to cancel the trip after she crashed on a test voyage.

She'll be O.K. What are the odds another cargo ship could get in her way?.......

NEWS FLASH !!! IDIOT PARENT ALERT!!!

Thursday, June 10, 2010 9:43am PDT

Emergency rescue effort is launched for teen sailor Abby Sunderland

By: Pete Thomas, GrindTV.com

A rescue effort has been launched in hope of finding Abby Sunderland, 16, who set off her emergency beacon locating devices from the southern Indian Ocean early this morning.

Sunderland, who had been attempting to sail around the world alone, endured multiple knockdowns in 60-knot winds Thursday before conditions briefly abated.
However, her parents lost satellite phone contact early this morning and an hour later were notified by the Australian Coast Guard that both of Sunderland's EPIRB satellite devices had been activated.

One is apparently is attached to a survival suit or a life raft and meant to be used when a person is in the water or aboard a life raft.

what a complete dumbass who has absolutely no respect for the seas. When you lose respect for it, it eats you. What a dumb ass. I hope she has to pay the rescue bill for her stunt.
