Of course it will. The companies will surely pass incresed taxes along to their customers. They are in the business for PROFIT. Anybody is in business for PROFIT. I am in business for PROFIT. That is GOOD. But, that is also why I believe that the Care side of the issue should be NOT FOR PROFIT.

Insurance compamies are in business to make money too. But Obamacare supporters call them evil for working for profit. I like my healthcare and insurance now and don't want to pay taxes for people who do not pay taxes to get care. They need to work for their own, and if they cannot the gov should subsidize them. The government will ruin healthcare like they have so many other thain gs they take over. The VA healthcare system is a joke. Social Security is a joke. Yet you all seem to forget about that. Reform should concentrate on helping those that need it and leave the rest of us the hell alone. It's not going to pass anyway. Not in its current form.

Default ER for uninsured truly is LAST resort

Apparently, uninsured ER patients are almost twice as likely to die than those with insurance. I guess hospitals are all about making money too:

Not true. It is illegal to turn away any patient based on insurance coverage or lack thereof.Illegal aliens come here and rack up millions of dollars by going to ER's then we end up paying the increased costs. Something Obama and his party don't want you to know. Watch the video I posted a couple pages back and see the truth. If there is data that states this it would be purely liberal pushed coincidence.

An idea that our Govt. could get done, is to take advantage of work that has been done by a group of doctors and nutritionists from Yale Univ. Their Nuval system scores food products in a few grocery chains. These scores allow shoppers to see immediately what nutritional value they are purchasing. Help expand this simple thing thruout the Nation. I am sure they would be able to think of other ways to use the scoring system. Perhaps devise a method where the cost of a nutritional item can be lowered. Make it cheaper to buy good food rather than bad. The future benefits are pretty easy to see. This would certainly not be too complicated, except for the Large Food Companies that may not like it very much.

You need to learn the difference between getting turned down for treatment and emergent treatment.

Ex: someone walks into an ER with complaints of pain of some sort. Yes, they will be worked up for fear of being sued and must be seen by a doctor.

But let's say that that "pain" turns out to be a tumor or something. It's not immediately life threatening. That patient is told to see a specialist and that it needs to be biopsied to determine whether it is cancerous, sent out the door with discharge instructions to see thier "regular" doctor or an oncologist and sent on their way.

They were diagnosed.. NOT treated. Because the "pain" wasn't threatening their life right at that moment.

BIG difference..HUGe..

And.. someone shouldn't be using the ER to be treated for a "sore throat". It' costs twice as much to be seen in an ER for non emergent care than it would be to be seen by a DR in an office. The difference.. an ER won't kick you out if you don't have the means to pay to be "seen" and diagnosed. A Dr. .. most likely will unless you can pay the nurse at the desk for the visit up front. Now, granted seeing a Dr. is not really expensive. Just went to my family Dr. for a suspected sinus infection and it cost me $60 (pennicilin for it cost me $35). Problem is is that most people uninsured do not have "regular" doctors.. this particular Dr is familiar with me not because I am a regular patient but because he is my son's Dr. (I chose a general family Dr. vs a Pediatrician). Had he never seen me before AT ALL or known me through his other patient (my son) I probably wouldn't have been 'Squeezed in". That was definately how most Docs worked where I used to live (Long Island). This is why when someone IS sick and can't get into see a regular "DR" because they don't really have one, they go to the ER and it cost 3x's as much.

IT ties up the ER with nonsense, costs the patients more or leaves a bill that doesn't get paid. In the end, they may be diagnosed, but if it is not life threatening they are certainly not treated. And, even if it is life threatening and it DOES get treated, the bill will end up being so huge they can't afford to pay it and then who do you think ends up paying for that bill?

Don't let facts interfere with the man's bias. It's disconcerting to him.

If you like your present healthcare than you ought to support Obama's plan. Obama's plan allows you to keep your existing health coverage. What on earth would make you think otherwise?

You don't want to pay taxes to pay for people who do not pay taxes to get care. Does this mean that you support the abolition of Medicare? If you are retired, you are not earning money and not paying taxes. Not everyone agrees the VA Healthcare system is a joke. I know several veterans who are pretty supportive of the VA and the care they are getting.

I guess since you also think "social security is a joke" that you favor its repeal as well? The problem with social security is not the government. The problem has to do with the nature of life when social security was created in 1938 and the way that life has changed today. In 1938, the average person did not live until age 65, so tax revenue collected was more than adequate to pay for all the survivors to have a pension. Today, in 2009, the average man lives to be 77 years old. The average woman lives to be 83 years old. It ought to be obvious to anyone that things have to change for the system to continue to function. The solution is some combination of extending the age that eligibility for retirement benefits begins and increasing taxes. Its that simple. "Guvmint" didn't ruin social security. It changed because human life expectancy increased.

I'm not sure what else you believe government has ruined since it took it over. Perhaps, you could name a few examples. The Post Office for example provides reliable mail service to every city, town and rural location in the United States, six days a week, for the cost of about 44 cents for a first class letter. These rates are less than any other country in the world. I guess Amtrak (the railroads) doesn't run that well, but the difference is the passenger rail system was already ruined when the government took it over. I personally get good public schools, garbage and sewer, police protection, and a competent military watching over our nation in return for my taxes.

Than, you sort of contradict yourself and say we "ought to focus on helping the needy and leave the rest of us alone". Now, I'm really confused. Am I needy if I have a chronic disease, but am employed, yet can't get health insurance? Am I needy if I lost my job, but COBRA coverage is available for 1 year, yet I cannot afford the COBRA coverage? Also, you previously stated you didn't want to pay taxes to support those not paying taxes. So, does that mean the needy (who don't pay taxes) shouldn't get help?

Look, I'm glad your health insurance is fine. Consider yourself lucky. Forty seven million Americans have no health insurance at all. Among those who do have it, there are many plans that have high deductibles and exclude coverage for costs like prescription drugs. Did you know that a high percentage of people filing bankruptcy do so because their health plans aren't sufficient enough to cover their medical costs?

I happen to have good health insurance right now too. But it isn't going to last if we do nothing about healthcare costs that are rising at the rate of 8% a year or 3 X the rate of inflation. I promise you your health insurance won't last either if nothing is done. While George W. Bush was President for eight years we did nothing at all about the health care situation.

Its time for reform and its time to accept that private insurance can never do the job on its own. I'd encourage you to look a little bit beyond yourself and this year. Times are changing whether we like it or not.
