I see the some of the socialists here, ie;right-handers, still believe the economy is the responsibility of the government. Do you people even read your own posts? I contine to hear the right whine about how the government is doing this or that wrong and that they need to "fix" things and at the same time claim that they are against socialist ideas, hmmmmmmm, me thinks that some here may be a bit confused when it comes to their politics.

Personally I think the states used the stimulus money for their own coffers since they are in trouble at the state level as well. They used it to offset their budget shortfalls.
Just google "US states use stimulus to offset budget shortfall" and see what pops up. A nice healthy sampling of states that admit it. And some still had job cuts because the stimulus money didn't cover all their shortfalls.
I heard about the 23 states today. And we are on the road to recovery? that is certainly an interesting statement. Yes, the market is doing well, thank God, but tell that to the millions who are either out of work or are worried about their jobs.
If 23 states report higher unemployment, how many states had lower unemployment?
My question is, why does the associated press emphasize the less significant negative reports?
Why did the author decide to press the bad news, instead of "majority of states report lower unemployment"?
Probably invested in gold, like everyone else pushing bad economic news.
...which was a slight tick upward from July when 26 states saw an increase in their unemployment rate (State by State Unemployment, July 2009 « Index Beating (http://indexbeating.com/2009/08/21/state-by-state-unemployment-july-2009/#more-1066 - broken link)).
...Which brings us back to June when 39 states saw an increase in their unemployment rate (State by State Unemployment, June 2009 « Index Beating (http://indexbeating.com/2009/07/21/state-by-state-unemployment-june-2009/ - broken link)).
... Which brings us back to May when 48 states saw an increase in their unemployment rate (State by State Unemployment, May 2009 « Index Beating (http://indexbeating.com/2009/06/23/state-by-state-unemployment-may-2009/#more-1046 - broken link))
So, since May - when a single state saw a decrease (and 1 other showed no change) in it's unemployment rate - we've gone from:
48 to 39 to 26 to 27 to 23 in regards to the number of states with an increasing unemployment rate.
In other words the number of states with an increasing unemployment rate has been cut in half over the last 5 months.
THAT sounds like progress to me. By spring that number will likely be down to less than 5.

Ps - It's also interesting to note that 53% of employers polled by Careerbuilder indicated that they plan to hire next year.

Wrong, but thanks for playing. The right wants the Govt out of the way completely. They don't think it's the govt's role to muck around in the economy. So of course they're going to complain about what the govt is doing. Duh.
