This week one of the big topics of discussion has been volunteerism since the Hollywood people have thrown it into TV shows and commercials after those same shows. I wonder if this article is about some scandals that they won't be talking about. I apologize for throwing in my second favorite female writer because many here won't approve of or even read anything she writes.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting that. I did in fact notice a sudden outpouring of volunteerism messages on TV (the latest message coming from Disney World) and wondered what started it.

Here's another article about Big Hollywood's bedding with Obama through volunteerism:

Do you get this p*ssed off & paranoid when you see commercials? Especially when the same commercials come on repeatedly during an average hour? You should, because those ads are shooting for your wallet. Those ads are telling you to get off your butt & go spend your hard-earned money on things you don't need like McDonalds. I have seen one, ONE volunteer commercial & that was during Cougar Town w/Courtney Cox. ONE! Are those ads looking to suck the money out of your pockets? No, they're looking to have people spend some time & energy on helping out others...for free. What a fricking horrible concept, hey? They're not trying to get money out of you, they're trying to get time out of you. Time to help your fellow citizens. What a load of crock you & your conservatives cronies pitch out on a daily basis. You should be ashamed of yourselves. This is a perfect example of how the right is all about themselves & money, nothing else. Compassion, empathy, sympathy are concepts that are COMPLETELY wiped out from your vocabulary & lifestyle. The thought of being like that makes me shudder.

Why are they acting like they invented volunteerism? You can walk into virtually any school in America and find a very active volunteer community... PTA, PTO, anyone? Not to mention the various service groups: Lions Club, Kiwanis, etc., etc... Hell, even bikers do charity runs.
Autism Ride September 20, 2009 | Villa Park, Illinois Bike Rally
Chicagoland Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade

These have all been around for DECADES! Why do Obama and Hollywood think they've invented the concept all of a sudden? Are they so self-centered that they're blind to what goes on in their own communities every day?!?

What a bunch of self-serving, self-righteous crap! As if no one would ever think to volunteer without Obama and Hollywood laying it on thick.

So... vowing to dedicate time for Obama is a non-issue?

Throwing people under the bus of corruption is a non-issue?

Blatent corruption and mis-management of these agencies... which are nothing more than an arm of the Obama administration, presenting themselves as not-for-profits is a non-issue?

I, and many other conservatives volunteer our time. We don't need multi-million dollar campaigns on TV to tell us what to do. But then again, it isn't at all about volunteering time, nor is it about helping others, it is politics, and corrupt ones at that.

Nice stereotype regarding "selfish" conservatives. Not buying it. Corruption is corruption is corruption. Not-for-profits don't get a "get out of jail free" card just because you try and turn it around on the volunteers.

Calm down spunky, obviously organizations can always use more helping hands. You know what is usually an effective way to get the word out? By using celebrities, politicians & TELEVISION!!! Who said that they invented volunteerism, that's your own ridiculous accusation.

Congrats on volunteering, obviously more people need to be doing it, right? If you already volunteer, tell me why you are so bothered by others getting the word out?

Thanks Kafar. The right wing cannot imagine doing anything for anybody without getting paid. Indeed they are the I, ME and MINE gang.

It's not ridiculous - they do, indeed, act as if they've invented the concept, and that message is getting through.

See what I mean:

No actually, they don't. It's a simple matter of getting out there w/a message to help others. Apparently you've never heard of that concept before?
