Uh-oh. They let the cat out of the bag.

US health care tab would grow under overhaul - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091021/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/us_health_care_overhaul_costs - broken link)

Quote:
WASHINGTON – The nation's medical costs will keep spiraling upward even faster than they are now under Democratic legislation pending in the House, a report from government economic experts concluded Wednesday.

The report from the Office of the Actuary, which does long-range cost estimates for Medicare, carried an unusual disclaimer, saying that it "does not represent an official position" of Health and Human Services or the rest of the administration.

The nation's health care tab, now at about $2.5 trillion annually, is projected to approach $4.7 trillion in 2019 without the legislation.

With the legislation, national health care spending would be nearly $4.8 trillion in 2019.
This is not a surprise to many. We know the democrats are sneaking and lying and hiding the true costs, just to get something passed for obama's sake.

Oh my gosh! You mean most all Americans now having coverage will make costs go up?

I wonder by how much? Maybe your source will tell us?

""The nation's health care tab, now at about $2.5 trillion annually, is projected to approach $4.7 trillion in 2019 without the legislation.

With the legislation, national health care spending would be nearly $4.8 trillion in 2019.

Health care would account for 21.3 percent of the U.S. economy in 2019, slightly more than an estimated share of 20.8 percent of the economy if no bill passes.""

Socialism! ....................................Going from 20.8% to 21.3%!....We're doomed! ( A laughable 2.4% increase)

But wait this report does not take into account all the legislation! ..........................Again from your source:

"The Obama administration immediately challenged the analysis, saying it is out of date because the House bill is being rewritten to bring costs under tighter control and will be merged eventually with other House legislation and a Senate bill.

"This is old news," said Nick Papas, a spokesman for the Health and Human Services Department."

Are you trying to pretend that $100,000,000,000 increase is chump change and you are willing to work to make sure these added costs are covered? Btw, thats another $100 Billion PER YEAR added to the deficit, over 10 years.. ONE TRILLION DOLLARS.. Ignore it all you wish but its a factor.

This is the part of the thread where the winger refuses to back up his claims with objective sources.

Observe..........{the total Cost of the program is 1 Trillion over 10 years. ....45% of that cost is paid for by moving funds from already existing budgeted items.}

Please phghquest post your source that says Obama's health care reform will add 100 Billion to the deficit each year??????..LOL

Are you ignoring this whole UHC debate, where the government will start to pay bills and offer care for the citizens, thereby become liable for all increases in costs, or are you trying to pretend that suddenly when UHC is put into place the government will somehow magicly begin to operate on surpluses rather than deficits?

I rest my case.

Unable to back up his claims, he starts tap dancing.

The point being; A massive takeover/overhaul of the HC system will not provide the cost savings the democrats are claiming.

The smart thing to do would be to focus on the actual problems in the system, address them one at a time, which would have broad support across the board.

But we all know why the democrats want a 1500 page boondoggle - hiding the ultimate goal - single payer.

So if this added $100 Billion wont be added to the deficit, where do you think it will come from? Little leprechauns will come and give us their bags of gold? Or do you think unicorns will come and let us cut off their horns and sell on the black market to make up the difference?

How many unicorns and/or bags of gold will we need? I'm interested in learning about your accounting skills and how we can poof $100 billion out of thin air.

Congratulations! You got the 1st point right.

Yes, this 1st bill does not drive down costs because we can't pass it with the all the doctors and drug companies screaming bloody murder.

That comes later...... After we pass the public option which will give the goverment huge leverage to drive down drug costs, medical services costs, and for-profit-insurance overhead.

Baby steps.

The government already has HUGE leverage to drive down costs, why arent they? You dont think Medicaid, medicare, va, chip programs = huge leverage?
