(Joke meaning "everything seemed to come from Japan) However, some of that stuff is still around, and fetching good prices on the collectors market. We had a balance in trade. I don't hate Chinese people for making a living.

I hate the debt that we are in. If people make something well from quality materials, I don't care where it comes from, but we need to recover our Manufacturing. I remember towns with factories. There were plenty of cottage industries. Rents weren't insane like they are now. I miss quality. Some of the junk sold currently falls apart, and breaks so easily. I will keep buying up old American made collectibles. Some of them are actually in museums now. Every time a Wal Mart closes, I celebrate.
We had a huge Fisher Price factory in our town, They decided that it would be cost effective to move the plant to Mexico. This plant had been in town for DECADES. When they left, Mattel/Fisher Price began having numerous issues with the quality of their toys. Never had one issue when they were here. Thank God Pella windows filled the plant.

As I always state, where were the Walmart workers working at when they applied at Walmart ?

My guess is---#1--they had no current job
---------------#2-Walmart had better wages and benefits than where they were working.

I doubt anyone was forced at gunpoint to leave a higher paying job and apply at Walmart.

If Walmart employees are ILLEGALS, that is wrong.

If Walmart employees were legals who applied at Walmart cuz it was better than what they currently had---------what's the objection ?

Many fulltime Walmart workers get benefits.

(not so with the " mom and pop" stores that have a couple employees and are mad cuz their employees are leaving them to work at Walmart .

They must have changed their ways, because they used to work people 39.5 hours a week so they would have to offer them benefits.

Nonsense. Without an educated workforce we cannot have a thriving middle class. There is no reason the US has to manufacture anything. There are many reasons it is better to ship it oversees.

----" There is no reason the US has to manufacture anything "--

I'd hate to be at the mercy of other countries for manufactured products we needed.

They hire a lot of part time people so they won't have to offer them benefits.

I will say the health care benefits aren't all that pricey but a lot of times their employees can't afford the plans because they aren't making a lot of money to begin with.
