There's an organic farm near me that offers produce at deeply discounted price if you volunteer 2-4 hours a week at their farm. I get to exercise horses, do a bit of veggie picking and help in the greenhouse and I get more than enough food to sustain both myself and my boyfriend. That would keep people busy, teach kids about where their food comes from AND it would be labor in exchange for food.

Aside from John McCain, I haven't heard anyone proposing amnesty.

Amnesty is an insult to all of the people who are trying to get in legally. Illegals should have to go back home, and try like everyone else. Why do the bleeding hearts feel that we have to take everyone in ??? boo hoo. NO we do NOT.

Yes, the US has always welcomed LEGAL immigrants. Last year the US Naturalized more citizens than the rest of the World combined.

It's actually pretty interesting... on this board (and in my real life) the vast majority of the staunchest liberals I know are completely 100% against illegal immigration and amnesty.

Finally, a topic most of us can agree on!

My mother in law came here legally from Poland. The talk of amnesty really bothers her and rightly so. I do not have the answer and apparently neither do the politicians.

In 1986 Ronald Reagan's administration passed the amnesty act which Reagan signed into law. As a result more people entered the country illegally as they believed they would also be granted amnesty.
