I think that people are simply people. That whites are just as racist as minorities, but the motivation and methods are different. There are many non-racist minorities and whites, as well. Education does play a HUGE role.
I would partly agree with you on how it is acted out. Some minorities are inclined to show it more and yes, act of their views while majorities have their feelings but do not let them intefer with their judgement and actions as much. Again, I certainly am generalizing. There are many, from all races that are not racist or bigoted.
Have any of you ever been the only white person in a room? Honestly. And I dont mean by choice where you went out with some minority buddies or whatever.

Explain your "situation" better, about being there "involuntarily". Then I may be able to discuss this issue with you.

In a somewhat professional setting like an office or classroom, or even at a store or function. Someplace where you didn't come in with a group of *insert ethnicity here* so you have a safe buffer zone.

"Does American society put too much emphasis on race?"
No, only the race baiters do in an attempt to shut down any opposition to their failed argument. Only now, unfortunately, they have deformed the meaning of the word racist and it is now a joke no longer taken seriously.

Then the answer is yes. Not just involuntarily (hard for me to do that in America), sometimes I volunteer in communities where I end up being the only guy with a different skin color. And have made a lot of great friends that way.
I'm now curious, why did you pick a white person to be in the situation, and not a person with another color. Or, do you believe they would feel differently than someone white, put in the same situation? Explain.
Many republicans. Go on this forum. Yes, I am sure about this.
Wow, a little history lesson. Racialization of Hispanics occurred by Whites in this nation. Thus, creating an us vs. them complex. This came more from the conservative right. At one point, Hispanics were "White". So in a sense, Republicans racialized Hispanics. Hispanics took this and claimed an identity. This is where we stand today. If you say "Brown Pride", you most likely are referring to Hispanics.
Not a history lesson, simply your opinion.
