I have a keen sense of how the job market is turning by viewing job sites and looking at the local paper.

I was out of work from January-May, no bites. Few interviews, but never turned into anything. The jobs were scarce then and I remember my paper's sunday jobs were 1 page, instead of when we were booming it being 4-5 pages.

Recently before I got the job im at now I noticed more and more openings. Actually a ton in my radius(minneapolis/st. paul). I put my resume in, been getting calls every week, had to turn them down because I took a job and obviously couldn't interview.

the unemployment is going up for some reason, but the jobs are there. people are too lazy to look and just chilling on unemployment, or they just don't know how to properly conduct a job search.

What field are you in,tropolis?

Your post leaves me incredulous.

The words "ostrich," "head," and "sand" come to mind.

Or perhaps you are just being ironic.

I think it depends on where you are, Things look pretty bleak in Ohio but there is little here in Arizona outside Ft Huachuca. The Army base has every construction crew in town working and businesses that were closed are reopening.

I agree somewhat as many folks do not invest the proper amount of time to their job search. Experts strongly recommend that you spend the equivalent of the number of hours looking for work as you'd spend working at a full-time job. Of course, some industries have been harder hit than others so folks have to be willing to accept a position in a different field or sector. I always recommend that folks have others review their resume and cover letters to ensure that you are conveying the right message to prospective employers. Also, follow up is essential after you have submitted your application/resume. It is tough out there so folks need to get more aggressive in their job searches.

That's a banking group, isn't it? So you are on the "operations/production" side of banking/financial services?

Sorry to be dense--but could you be more specific about what you do? Is it highly specialised, and how many years of experience do you have?

What mechanisms are you using to apply? Recruiters, company website, etc.?

I am a former resident of MSP and have heard things are "not good" up there on the employment front, so this is of great interest to me.

Thanks!

lol, yes wells fargo is a bank.

and like every other bank, wells fargo has branches. im in operations/production for the home mortgage branch. Ops/production is more of the muscle/physical side of wells fargo, but still extensive computer work with fha's and sp's, strikeforce etc. I got in entry level, since im still in school, but i mean its wells fargo, its a legit company, and when i have my degree i'll be able to move up since ill have tenure with them.

job openings though, I see at minimum, at minimum, 500 a day within 25 miles of where I live, thats where I set my radius.

sorry, i just don't buy it that unemployment is bad as they say.

There are jobs. For one more people than ever are immigrating to the USA, the recession is actually bringing a lot of people over into the USA.

500 job openings? How many of these are "nonjobs"? And how many applications are they getting for each opening?

Well, long may your good fortune continue, youngster who has apparently faced little adversity...for if it suddenly stops, I suspect you will no longer extrapolate it to the economy in general.

Oh wait, this is America If it isn't happening to me, it isn't happening!

I think a lot of people have pigeonholed themselves in one market. You have to be able and willing to diversify your search.
