The govt is not planning on running health care, you can still go to your doctor. This is not socialized medicine as in the old USSR. Private drug manufacturers are making the vacinne as they always have. Without the govt., there would be no vacinnes since companies loose money on them. There is an idea, have the govt. stop supporting private companies to make the vacinne, then we won't have any for any flu or let the market decide the price and nobody could afford them.

Then people will be forced to cover their mouths while coughing or even (the horror) washing their hands. And it'll save the gov't a ton of OUR cashola.

H1N1 is a new strain of virus, not identified until late April of this year. Vaccine production requires at least six months lead time. No government in the world, no person -- no matter how poweful -- can change that.

OBAMA STATED THIS WAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT IN APRIL!!!!

So they did not see the alarm bells coming because he was totally misinformed or created his own opinion not based on facts.

By Obama stating is was not to worry about it but all of us in a unsafe position.

OP, you are correct in your thinking. If Obama and the dems could not be ahead of the game for the H1N1 then what do you think they will do with the HC?

Of course, make is worse then it already is.

9 months since the H1N1 issue came up and of course he did not push the vaccine to be made because he said it was nothing to worry about.

If the moron in the WH cannot see it coming with all his sheep whispering in his ear then how can we trust him on anything?

Better than that, here's something even better from the past which affects us as we speak (ie, swine flu shortage): Wall Street Journal: Hillary's Vaccine Shortage

For the comprehension challenged, here's the point. In the intent of "doing something that feels good", Hillary & government intentionally introducing market distortions (ie, forcing down price of vaccines drives many vaccine companies out of business). This drives down the number of vaccine producers from 25 to now 6. 6 vaccine companies cannot possibly meet the incredibly short time frame H1N1 vaccine production. Thus, the shortage we have today.

1. You continue to misrepresent what he said in April. I suspect you will no matter how often anyone corrects you.
2. H1N1 was identified in late April. That's six months ago. It takes at least six months to produce a vaccine once the strain is identified.

Here is the problem:

The vaccine production system in the US is outdated and inefficient.
This system is yet another example of poor use of tax payer's money!

And yet, despite that:

a) Many, including you, knew that producing the H1N1 item was a longer lead item that would imply Obama production goals would not be met in time, and

b) Many health organizations sounding the alarm on a shortage of vaccine producers (thanks to Hillary, see previous post)

Obama goes out and says there will be H1N1 vaccines for everyone! That would imply either Obama:

a) didn't listen to the experts, making him a "pointy haired boss" administrator, which is bad, or

b) he did listen and lied, making him even worse.

Then, they blame the vaccine makers, who were under a "crunched" timeframe of production, in September (when flu season is well underway) was even worse, given what I've already said.

In any case, this does NOT make the case for gov't running health care.

So people are mad that they can't get out the flu vaccine fast enough and people are mad it was rushed to market.

Sorry to say, but it takes years of testing for most drugs to market. Variants of the same thing take less time, but it still takes time to test and grow them (and scale up)...and they are made by private industry.

You can't win if you do it fast, and you can't win if you do it safe. No one's happy ever, so no one is going to care.

Republicans took funding for pandemic vaccines out of the stimulus bill last spring!

Quote:
"We had $870 million in the committee-reported stimulus bill for buying anti-virals, vaccines, planning, etc. It was dropped in Collins-Nelson because it was 'not stimulative,'" said a Senate leadership aide
.

Quote:
Karl Rove, from his perch at the Wall Street Journal, criticized the inclusion of "$462 million for the Centers for Disease Control, and $900 million for pandemic flu preparations," on the grounds that "health care also added jobs" in the previous year. Such expenditures were, to Rove, "disturbing" and an example of President Obama's "lack of engagement and leadership."
