The Incredible Shrinking GOP: Only 20 Percent Self-Identify As Republican
Okay, this is striking. Earlier this week a Washington Post poll made a big splash because it found that only 21 percent self-identify as Republicans. The abysmally low number got pundits and reporters talking about whether the GOP is shrinking to the point of irrelevance.

Now we have another poll that finds that the number of self-identified Republicans has dropped even lower: 20 percent.

All we need right now is reasonable opposition and good ideas to beat back obama's radicalism. """

Sooooo....where is it..????

""A "leader" per say is not necessary...right now."""

Well, maybe they should find one before they try to elect a president....

"""In fact, it is much better to have obama trying to attack the average citizen that disagrees with his policies - a much more ticklish problem for him.

Without a GOP leader to target, he is left to attacking Fox, business and ordinary citizens that disagree with him. Perfect

First the wrong year, now the wrong data. This was a highly Republican-biased electorate. The Independents who turned out were disproportionately from among those former Republicans who are now too ashamed to actually call themselves that. Look at the vote by ideology. Liberals went 9-to-1 for Deeds. Conservatives went 9-to-1 for McDonnell. Moderates -- the 42% of voters in the middle -- went for Deeds by 53-47.

Obama teamed with this congress make up the worst Admin and the worst congress in American history.

They are a gift for the rep party as I have said for a long time.

Could not have been better timing to match the two up and watch them destroy America by raising taxes, killing jobs, create record foreclosures and bankruptcies, allowing diseases to spread like wildfire and have our rights taken away from us and handed to terrorist at Gitmo and Fort Hood.

They pair up well at this time in our history and it will end any power the liberals will have for many years to come.

You've finally done something right.

I have never seen a president, within the first year of his term, have so little coattails to ride.

A really nice analysis.....I'm shocked it made it out of the editorial room of Newsweek.

Why Republicans Are Winning in the Age of Obama | Newsweek Politics | Newsweek.com

If obama was honest and governed as he said he would, as a moderate, things might be very different today. Instead, he has tanked in the polls, a clear majority is against his radical HC and Cap&Trade programs and his party is likely to suffer substantially at the polls next year, especially if it is true that the UE will remain 10%+ throughout 2010.

This has to be one of his greatest accomplishments to date.
You jest, surely-as if they needed any help with that !
Republican party is the most united party in world history, where else would the racists, bigots and haters of all stripes possibly go?

They're just two sides of the same coin. When are people going to wake up and realize this? We keep tossing one group out in favor of the other, and we get the same results.

If this country ever needed a third party -- one that's not a corporate slave and that actually follows the Constitution -- it is NOW.

So you're actually rooting for unemployment to remain high, just to get Obama out of office?

This is how blind allegiance to political parties is killing this country.

Indeed they are, rightists put their vile ideology above country and humanity in general.

Well if Obama is doing so much to unify the Republican Party, then I would expect you to be heaping praise upon the man.
