when my mother was in labor with my sister (her third child, so she knew the routine by then and knew she didn't need to go to the hospital yet), some jehovah's witnesses knocked on our door. they did promptly leave when she told them she was in labor.
i'm polite to people who come to my door trying to convert me to their religion, but i avoid them when i can. i flat out tell them i'm not interested and i don't want to talk, and i've never had someone say "oh ok" and leave. they always keep going.
i come from a jewish background so proselytizing is sort of foreign and offensive to me.
I get not only Jehovahs, but I guess members from local Evangelical churches. When I open the door I simply say "SORRY NOT RELIGIOUS" and close it immediately. It is super annoying, but what are you going to do? If I can see who it is ahead of time, I don't answer the door and my dogs go crazy and they leave.
They're on our block at least once per week. I tried everything, including threatening to have them charged with harassment ('cause enough is enough when you tell someone to not return and they do) but it's true that even tho they come every single week, it is different people. So, I then taped a 3 x 5 card on my front door that says in black magic marker: "No Selling, No Soliciting, No Church Groups, police will be notified."
Sign has been there a couple years and I haven't been bothered since.
There’s a church by my mom’s house and they used to come and ask “if you died right now, where would you go” and of course we all say heaven because we believe in heaven and then they say “well how do you know” so we tell them we believe in God and we go to church on a regular basis and our happy with our church and they still give us a paper and invite us over sometime. It’s annoying but they’re always so polite I can bring myself to be rude to them

It should be for everyone. Religion is a private affair. What strikes me as odd about folks that do this sort of thing is that they don't seem to realize that they are making a values judgment when they do this. Implicit in trying to convert someone is the notion that what they are presently is bad. And then they wonder why people get offended?
They haven't come to my home yet but they have apporached my car in a parking lot. I mostly see them on the street or at a store handing out those Watchtower pamphlets. One time a lady handed me a Watchtower about parenthood. I was 23 at the time (a young looking 23 I might add), I didn't have a ring on my finger, and parenthood was the last thing on my mind. When my co-worker told the lady that I didn't have any kids, the lady said "well you never know with the kids nowadays".

I look forward to being accosted by these folk. It gives me a chance to tell them exactly what I believe is sick and perverse about their cult! Absolutely makes my day!
