I am retired and not following the unemployment situation too closely but last night Neil Cavuto had some politician on that was talking about transportation-related job creation bill as well as the Reinvestment and Recovery Act (unspent stimulus money) and Cavuto said the problem is that the jobs being created don't match the skills of the people who are out of work. In other words (and I'm just making up this example) you can create a zillion road and bridge projects but if it's IT guys, sales people, accountants and secretaries that are out of work, big deal --- it's not going to help unemployment numbers.
Then he talked about the Jobs Summit at the White House and said nothing ever comes out of any summit (any presidency). People go because they are dazzled by the White House invite but no one who comes ever does anything, after they are over, to remedy a situation. He said, he (Cavuto) should know because he's been to a few with both Democrat and Republican presidents.
So, a couple of questions.
Is the purpose of holding a summit to make it look like the President is doing something when it's mentioned on the nightly news but it's really all for show?
What have you heard about non-government job creation by employers not involved with infrastructure projects? You know, besides the roads and bridges, do you know of any job creation projects (not government job) that are white collar jobs?
Do you think the timing of the job summit, Stimulus 2 and the hurry up with healthcare and "git er done" by December, has anything to do with the State of The Union Address in January?
