Well the former East Germany is a drag on overall German economy because it was even more socialist than West Germany. Imagine how powerful Germany would be if it threw off the shackles of socialism. It is also simply not true that Germany prior to 20 years ago had lower unemployment than the US. Finally the overall historic unemployment rate of Europe is significantly higher than the US. Please see my previous link.

Perhaps to those educated under the Euro-centric perspective, but to those of us with a more rounded education, it would seem Asia has us beat in terms of a center of elongated and stable power. While Europe suffered through the Dark Ages, the Muslims had universal healthcare, and made huge progress in science - especially astronomy and medicine. At the same time, China was one of the most technologically advanced nations on the planet - and would remain so until they introduced Europeans to gunpowder which they would later use to incite genocide and promote slavery across three continents - Asia, Africa, and South America.
European nationalism (the same you are spewing here) lead to at least 5 large scale conflicts, from the 7 Years War, the Napoleonic Wars, and on to World War II leading to the deaths of over 100 million people worldwide.

Naw mate, Europe's age old trading links with many regions throughout the world ensures that we're not dependent upon any particular region.
Americans are quite correct to purchase European product - we make far superior product.

Let's put German reunification in to perspective.
What country anywhere could increase their overall population by 20% and still be the best performing economy in the world?
Only Germany could.
Germany overall population stands at approx 80m people.
Before unification were there 17 million in East Germany at unification.
Greater Germany absorbed this 20% population increase and still managed to perform as a world rated economy.

Since the European population is more than double the US population, your numbers are pretty unimpressive.
