We have also been repeatedly lectured by the same proponents for 0bamaCare of the importance of preventive measures in health care. These people have been claiming that the uninsured are not receiving proper preventive care, which leads to undiagnosed illnesses that go untreated, until they call 911 and go to the emergency room.
Speaking for myself only on this issue, I am referring to immunizations, routine physicals (where the health care practitioner can use his/her clinical judegement to decided to order tests, along with the reasearch-based guidelines, and the like.
The OP is referring to a decision by the American Cancer Society, not Congress or Obama, to rethink some of its recommendations. No decision has even been made yet. As many of us in health care all along the political continuum have said, the prostate issue has been brewing for a long time. It's not new. Further, Rush did not, as the OP inferred, dig this up himself. It was reported by the MSM, which is probably where Rush got it and then twisted it to his own benefit. And the sheep listened and obediently ran off to their computers!

Now, now. No one has proposed any such thing. Wasn't it just last week, anyway, that the RW was carrying on about how dangerous the swine flu vaccine is? I later learned that was because Glenn Beck said so. Why not get your medical advice from Glenn Beck? Makes as much sense as asking your doctor how to fix your car!
The administration is saying they are going to push preventive care and getting people to stop living lifestyles that put them at risk---even taxing more and more for cigarettes, soft drinks. etc. then the Medical Assoc. comes out with, "early tests are not that good." I bet Obamacare will ask when we had our tests and say---thats way too late for you to get on our treatment schedule. Too bad, you should have been practicing preventive medicine.

(CNN) -- Women in their 40s should not get routine mammograms for early detection of breast cancer, according to updated guidelines set forth by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.
Before having a mammogram, women ages 40 to 49 should talk to their doctors about the risks and benefits of the test, and then decide if they want to be screened, according to the task force.
For the people who have been reading my posts about health care...they already knew this was coming, because I predicted it...or better...I knew this was coming because of cutting costs!
In Europe it hasn't been done so much due to the costs and socialist health care...get used to the government all of sudden tell us all that all we used to do since the government was telling us it was the best for our health...is in the near future...not healthy for us meaning .....TOO EXPENSIVE!!!
Soon colon cancer checks...gone...too expensive or the government will tell us that it isn't necessary to checkit every yr, but every 5 or 10 yrs...etc...
Look at all the cut in costs in Europe and you know what you can expect...don't forget the waiting lists and say bye bye to MRI's...
They complained insurance cost too much..so in order to bring down the price of insurance, services (non-critical, preventative) will have to get cut as well. Government subsidy can't cover it all.
Did people think they were going to get something for free ?
oh come on! figures that the hysterical right would latch onto this and run like hades. Waiting for death panels to make a comeback! The only thing I find disconcerting is the fact that no cancer docs are on the panel. But the crux of the matter is that this task force is screwing the pooch with their poor choice of words. They are giving insurance companies fodder for their denial cannons.
i have my yearly smash-o-gram scheduled for january .. HATE IT!!!

It's a recommendation. No one is stopping women from getting mammograms anytime they want them.
The study also said that self-exams don't increase survival rates. That's a 180 degree turn from prior recommendations, but it's certainly not "rationing" of health care in any way. Neither the insurance companies nor the government have anything to gain from women performing fewer self-exams.
I had a baseline mamogram at age 40 and they had me come back for more tests before determining I had a small cyst. It was scary and I can sort of see why they might create more problems than they solve.
I've have a pap and a mamogram every 3 years since I was 40 and will continue with that schedule now that I'm 50. I had a baseline colonoscopy which was clean so I was told I don't need to go back for 10 years. Yee Haw!
But let's get serious, these health and medical "guidlines" change with the wind (and profit margin). When the BMI index was changed suddenly everyone was overweight. When the glucose levels were changed people became diabetic. When blood pressure scores changed suddenly everyone had hypertension. I'm not saying there this is all bad, but I'm not going to say it's all good either. Lot's of money in those perscription drugs...
