Hmmmm, what does that say for Democrats? The only thing I can think of is problems during the 2010 elections for Dems. Might be more discontent within their base and with Independents.

Anyone think of anything else?

Why do you think there is such a discrepancy between parties? (I have no idea, by the way)

Your generalization has one slight flaw. A lot of recent college graduates are Democrats and these young workers (or non-workers) are also the ones facing the most difficulties getting into the workforce with the current economy. Those who are not recent-graduates are the ones that have not been on the job long enough, hence lower salaries and easier to replace (i.e. give their job duties to the older workers, who are more likely to be non-Democrats). Also harder to fire older employees (i.e. mostly non-Democrats) for fear of age discrimination.

What is says is that Democrats have a larger share of minorities blacks and hispanics voting for them.

Black and hispanics are not "liberal" per se. ( See exit polls for California Gay Marraige proposal)

Asians on the other hand (a much smaller minority) tend to vote Demcorat as well. Asians have higher incomes than whites.

This is puzzling. What are you saying? How do you arrive at discontent within the base from an aggregate of business decisions?

You know the same Party that today blocked a law preventing credit card companies from jacking up rates before a new law is in place. The same Party that blocks minimum wage increases. The same party that greases the skids for jobs to be shipped overseas. The same party that fights against the wealthy paying more of the share in taxes. The same party that fights pro-union legislation. The same party that wants to gut funding for the FDA, EPA, IRS, SEC. etc. The same party that doesn't want the poor to have health insurance..

That's not surprising. As mentioned democrats have a higher number of black folks who have always had the highest unemployment numbers. Also they tend to be lower income. The lower the income the more likely to be unemployed especially since the low paying retail market has taken such a hit. So yeah demographics have more to do than actual party affiliations.

I am liberal/unaffiliated and gainfully employed, so I guess I defy the odds. This study does nothing but point out the tendencies of people and their loyalties.

If you have a job and are doing well, you want to preserve the status quo and are thus likely to be Republican.

If you loose your job and are struggling, you want to end your affiliation with whoever you voted for and you may take side with the Democrats' liberal message.

People's affiliation does not determine their lot in life; their lot in life determines their affiliation - that and whichever political marketing campaign struck a chord and peer pressure, of course. This study is bunk.

This is what it means:

1) ACORN registered thousands of new Democrats last election.

2) Thousands of young, unueducated, apathetics also registered Democrat in order to vote for Obama

3) All these newly registered Obama-voters are now on the rolls.

4) Those rolls are now overflowing with the lower-middle class people, who are the hardest hit by the economy.

5) Thus, those who voted for Hope and Change are seeing how blind rhetoric and skin color doesn't do much for job hunting, and now they're showing up fruitfully in the Democratic column.
