Tells you something about why most founding fathers were against taxation, eh? If one thing history shows, is that excessive taxation is pure unadulterated FAIL.

Such as? You can avoid the income tax in many many ways. Buy and sell physical gold, move your money offshore, work under the table, only accept cash for private transactions, etc.

Against taxation? Jesus Christ, if understanding the American Revolution can be reduced to School House Rock lyrics, and reenactors posing as Tom Paine with only the slightest attribution of anything that he wrote... no wonder the U.S. is in such sad shape.

By the way, folks, you are aware that Paine was a "founder" but he wasn't a "framer."
Have you ever read Paine's Common Sense? In case you haven't let me suggest that you get a copy of Beck's Common Sense where you can find Paine's words included. Maybe if more people read Beck's version after reading Paine's they could see just how revolutionary Paine really was.

I see that you cherry picked Paine. You didn't see all his talk about how the colonies could build all the warships they needed and strangle the British by not building them for the enemy? You didn't see all his suggestions about how land force could be used to push the British out? I guess you read a different version than the one I read.

Did Paine have anything to do with The Rights of Man? I didn't know that.

I keep a copy of Becks Common Sense in the bathroom. I can usually get a half page read before I'm finished.

We agree about consumption taxes instead of income taxes but I guess I haven't seen the limitations when compared to our present income tax, How about enumerating some of them?
