I think that history goes back further than 9 years.

There is plenty of blame to go around, starting with ourselves for racking up credit card debt starting in the 80's, internet stock speculation 90's, housing speculation 00's etc. etc. etc.

The politicians have been awful.

hmmm.... I could have sworn that he got sworn in on January 20, 2009 and not November 25, 2008....
And if I can recall, we were in this sh*tstorm a long time prior to then

I blame both Clinton (Democrat) and Bush (Republican).

First, when Clinton was in the office, he forced a Promotion for "Affordable Housing" which gave the financial institutions freedom to increase the number of risky mortgages given out, also called "The Subprime Housing Market".
Clinton Pressure to Promote Affordable Housing Led to Mortgage Meltdown*|*OpenMarket.org
The subprime housing market led to the housing bubble which eventually had burst in late 2007 thru early 2008.
Also, Bush had his share of faults in this crisis too because back in 2001, he took security strains off the banking institutions, which led to greed & inflations on Wall Street and also added inflation to the US housing market at a rapid speed.

Also, Bush led this economy into a downturn when he also decided to go to War without plans & also on false reasons.

This is why the US is currently suffering & people need to realize that Obama was not in office at the time of this mess.
It's just that it was left on his plate to clean-up & it will take time & patience, in which he mentioned during his Campaign.

Blame any problems the U.S. may have on voters who have continued to send the same worthless representation to WashingtonDC, expecting government to do something other than keep commerce in a working capacity and prevent a violation of the country's borders.

Congress no matter who is in control. The executive branch, with a bit of pushing, is basically just asking them on policies we have. A majority of people got Congress elected so they must have agreed with most of the candidates ideas. Pogo had it right.

Not exactly. President Obama was elected in November, 2008. His presidency started on Jan. 20, 2009.
O.K. Month 11. Sue me.

I think it is too early to blame Barack Obama. I would certainly not have blamed McCain had he won in a mere 11 months. I am going to wait until 2011 or 2012 before passing judgment on Obama. Now do I agree with everything he is doing? No. But I do think he is the better choice compared to McCain/Palin.

I think what others said it spot on. Congress can be more of an issue than the president is. I wish you made this post the type where you can choose more than one.

I can't vote --- the poll is skewed.

I blame both reps and dems. As Imalert correctly stated, the housing bubble was created under Clinton and nursed to the breaking point by the likes of Barney Frank. However, W and his crew certainly added their spin to the financial crisis by incurring debt like a drunken democrat
Neither party looked five minutes into the future, both parties were more concerned with garnering power and getting what they want when they wanted it without added the costs. And Obama is very guilty of continuing this practice. He has learned nothing from W or Clinton. No, if W sold us to China then Obama has compounded that sin by selling our great great grandchildren as well.

It goes back a long way before either man, start with the country ignoring Eisenhower's warning about the military-industrial complex and taking the drunken rants of Joe McCarthy to heart. I truly believe those two things lie at the heart of many of the problems we face today.

I dont completely blame anyone, however, every president and every congress since Nixon has had a hand in where we are today. Some were far worse then others, such as Reagan and Bush. However, everyone had a hand. Clinton signed NAFTA, Nixon paved the way to China, Carter fueled China and bailed out big business, all of them screwed around in the middle east.
