Do you think they are working hard conducting the business of the United States or could we layoff some and save America some money without much negative consequence?

I thought I was great, and did a terrific job, during my 34-year federal career (not including military time). And I'm doing an even better job as a federal retiree.

What do you mean? Are you still getting paid from the government to work?

Even better - I'm getting paid NOT to work!

But yes, you're right - I should not have used the word "job" there.

How about: And I'm doing even better as a federal retiree.

Coming from the private sector, I'm astonished at some of the salaries for federal, state and civil service employees. In a year I'll be on the federal teat myself, and you taxpayers will be paying my salary too.

As a Federal Employee it always gave me great comfort knowing that if I fell out the window it would take me a week to hit the ground. I'm hoping for a transfer to the FEMA Camp operating the Soylent Green machine, if they don't contract it out to Halliburton

Well I'm all for more effeciency but would never advocate someone losing their job. If they're a bad employee fire them otherwise everyone deserves to work hard for the things that make life comfortable.

I used to despise bureaucrats until I worked a few years in the corporate world and now, I am going back to graduate school next year to get a Masters in Public Administration, so that I can get a State or Federal job in the next three years. I look forward to being a paper shuffler!

Most fed employees are doing two jobs at a time with the reductions in force.
Methinks the OP is simply envious or clueless.

Are there some bad federal employees, certainly.
Are there some bad private sector employees, certainly also.
