I like the guy but celebrity in this country seems to give you a lot of rights that us common people don't have.
If I were in an accident I certainly wouldn't have been able to cancel a meeting with the police. I most certainly wouldn't even been granted a "meeting" with police.
The police would have "met" with me and I wouldn't have been given the opportunity to refuse.
You pretty much answered the question yourself: He's Tiger Woods.
He is the best golfer in the world, and a very likable person, but I'm really offended by how money and fame trumps everything else. He certainly isn't the first though and won't be the last.
It's an automobile accident. One car. Only damage is to his car and is his problem. All he need provide the police is a driver's license, registration for the car and proof of insurance.....and police can check that he has all those things because they know who he is.

WTH is up with this?
He's not required to meet with them at all....they're just doing it so he can have an opportunity to make a statement about it (I guess mostly for the press to read and report to everyone). There are no special priviledges being afforded to him here.

No, they need to see his driver's license, his registration and his insurance card. That's it.

Then why do the police want to meet with him and he and his wife refuse? If the police wanted to "meet" with me and I delayed them I would most probably be arrested. And why the hell do they merely want to "meet" with him. Again, if it were me I would probably be demanded to walk into city hall at the very least. I've never, ever in my life been "requested" to meet with the police, nor have I ever known anyone (at least in my pay range) that were "requested" to do so. You either complied or were arrested. End of argument. He is being given preferential treatment as are every other celebrity, IMO.
