if you think the war was just about slavery, you should do a little research as well.

No, they (the Southern states) wished to seperate themselves from a political connection with the northern states. NOT from the principles of the Founding Fathers and the United States Constitution and Declaration of Independence (both of which were largely written by Southerners). This is evident in the CSA Constitution (which varied only superficially, with the original).

All that lead to war, but that the spirit which propelled the secession of the Southern states was motivated by a desire to overthrow the United States government (or anything similar) is just not true. All they wanted to do was go their own way. The South offered to negotiate a mutually benificial defence and economic alliance with the North...open up the Mississippi for free trade and navigation. Sure, there were hot-heads, but it is telling that Jefferson Davis was elected president...and he was a "moderate." He represented the majority of Southerners who didn't want war, just to be left alone.

Well said TexasReb, about some of the slavery ordinances and entries in the C.S.A's Constitution, was it to keep the limited Central government of the C.S. out of the issue (to counterbalance the U.S. government when they got into it), or to protect the owners property rights?

And I am a liberal and like the Confederate flag.

The Confederate flag is not a liberal vs conservative issue

Default Nope, not about slavery at all.

Why, look at why Texas seceded - purely a principled decision on rights, nothing about slavery at all. Well, hardly.

Texas, for instance, has a perfectly fine flag that covers the entirety of its history. Why zoom in on the exact timeframe where Texans fought for - well, that?

It is an interesting "comparisson" between the original United States Constituion and that adopted by the Confederacy. That is to say, not much difference! LOL

The major (if such terms can be used) between the U.S. and C.S. was to re-emphasize the soveriegn capacity of the individual states.

You are entitled to your opinion--just as everyone else who has posted to this thread--and you get no argument from me. I just thought it would be an interesting poll to see where people who hate the Confederate flag (for whatever reason), those who love the Confederate flag (for whatever reason) and those who are indifferent to the Confederate flag fall on the political spectrum. That's all. No more, no less.

BTW what were you pasting and what point were you trying to make by pasting it?
